I am considering the purchase of a new TV. Haven't bought one in many years, so am seeking the advice of anyone here who has recently purchased one or just has good knowledge of current technologies and can recommend a smart purchase. TIA for your ideas.

I have seen one of Samsung TV series at Sears. It has connected to internet and use motion detector and voice recognition. You don't need a remote control. You can also changed channels just by moving your hands back and forth, up and down, whatever you want. I played like a kid in front of the TV, lol. My husband had to drag me out from that section, :P .

I got a buddy just bought one of those high end 4 zillion resolution smart 3d etc TV's $$$$$$ He spent forever tryingto egt it top lay something in super High resolution. Never could. It was supposed to upconvert

Bottom line. Not worth the extra money and as fro 3d. Blah. Until they make one without glasses, I am not interested.

Let me go ahead and tell you how this is going to go down. You are going to carry the misses with you. You are going to end up getting the one with the cute remote or has some built in karaoke feature.

Suggestion: Do some research and find out what you really need in a TV - do you need it to be wifi enabled, with cam, etc or do you use your TV for watching shows, news only? The different technologies available can be expensive and in the end you may never use them, or you may find you could use your new TV for something you do often - i.e. Facetime with family back in the home country etc.

Or just be a man and buy the biggest one they make...

Good points...

I haven't had cable (other than the interwebs) for 15 years or so. Don't watch "TV" as most folks do. I want WiFi access to internet and stuff like Netflix (don't use that yet, but may), I want to watch DVDs and connect to my HTPC. May even add an AppleTV or Roku in the near future, not sure yet.

In that case most of the current wifi-cabaple HD sets should fit your bill. Some may come with a preset selection to streaming sites such as Netflix, Hulu, etc. As far the HTPC goes, you only need to be concerned with the connectivity aspect, and chances are you have a HDMI port on the back of the HT device - most TVs nowadays have at least two or three HDMI ports int he back. Apple TV and Roku will also give you the ability to stream from selected sites; these too connect via HDMI and AirPlay-like features. You should have a lot of fun with the research.

I'd say most sets will satisfy your needs, which means you have a ton of choices.

Haven't gotten that far yet. Looking for quality first (firm believer in Samsung screens), then capabilities. Size plays a part, of course. Have a 40" in da LR now, not sure if it will be replaced and moved into the bedroom, or if the new one will go in the bedroom.

I was looking at Consumer reports. Samsung is highly rated. They really like this one

Samsung UN55H6400

Highest rated under 2G, coming in at about 1200

Just bought a new TV for the bedroom a few weeks ago. It's a JVC 50 inch, and, well... it's OK for the bedroom. Wife liked it (and picked it out) because it is a very thin LED and fits nicely on the wall like a picture. Quality is only fair but fine for our bedroom. Sound leaves a lot to be desired. Came with a USB Roku device I have not played with yet. I would not really recommend this one.

Our main TV is a two year old Sharp 70 inch. It's wifi capable and has apps for Netflix and some others. Not 3d but I don't need or want that. It is really a very good TV and we like the size. Sound is pretty good, but this past year we added a sound bar. Picture is great, but then again my eyes are not what they used to be!

If your looking for a hot TV, there are some available in MO.

As I said in my earlier post. You are going to end up with a TV because your wife likes some "cute" thing about it. This proves my point. LOL

Reckon I'll go for a new LED TV with 240Hz and a pink remote...

We have been very happy with our two Samsung flat screen tv's. We have a 48" in the living room and a 40" in the bedroom. We're talking about upgrading the living room tv to a Samsung 60" "smart tv" for Christmas. The 48" will then be relegated to the man cave in the basement.
