I'm currently in the process of obtaining a cr-1 spouse visa for my wife. I am looking for answers in advance to make things a lot easier once our I-130 gets transferred to NVC. My wife lived in the US for 14 months therefore she will need to obtain a police certificate from the US, and one from Germany where she grew up and currently resides. My question is this: How do you obtain said police certificate? From local police station(town she lived in)? Or through the FBI, where it says it takes 16 to 18 weeks to obtain? Also, does it need to be Authenticated? If so, how to obtain Authentication? I appreciate any and all answers, thank you.

She doesn't need a police certificate from the U.S. only from elsewhere she lived since she was 16 years old. It is stated in their webpage (can't add the link due to internet connection)but you can check on travel.state.gov.

No US FBI check is needed. The USCIS did their own checks with the petition.

I have read from that site several times and it states

IF YOU.....

lived in a different country for more than 12 months

AND...

you were 16 years or older at that time

She has lived in the US for 14 months and was over the age of 16, therefore she will need a police certificate from where she resided in the US. Am I reading that wrong and just totally misunderstanding that?

Also reading that it states local police authority is where to obtain them, thank you NLR. Appreciate any and all feedback.

Because she is seeking residence in the USA the USA is the one place she doesn't need this from.

From NVC website:

How to obtain a police certificate:

Determine the countries from which a police certificate is required. Refer to the table below.

Note: Present and former residents of the United States need NOT obtain any U.S. police certificates

Contact the appropriate police authorities. Additional information on how to obtain a police certificate can be found on the Reciprocity by Country page.
