The real reason we can't talk about Racism. Is .. Ferguson is the perfect example. They don't care about facts, truth or justice. All they know is they want the police officer in jail. regardless of the facts and are not making bones about saying it .

Yes you can post this link or that link, where some guy got falsely arrested or falsely accused of shoplifting. Is that why black communties are filled with single mothers, drugs, and crime ? Is that why black children don't perform in school ?

As Karee said, we have changed we welcomed the changes, but we are tired of the cry of Racism, every time a black person does not get want they want

100's of black kids gunned down in Chicago, while we were fixated on black kid who got killed in Fla, simply because a white man did it. Let that sink in

I've been fixated on it for a while now. In fact, so are you. It's brought up every time so white people start shooting people.

So tell me Marvin, you got hired over the phone by a company that is willing to wait many months on you to start. Unheard of .

What exact skill set do you have that is so rare and so in demand, that they were willing to wait on you like that. I mean it must be mighty special, because not only did they do that, you are black, which you keep telling us makes it impossible for you to get a job ?

Defense Travel System Analyst. It's a skill that most people in the military use, but only a few people master is. And out of that few, only a very few want to do it in the civilian sector. Out of the very few that want to do it, I'm rare because I enjoy doing it. My resume is 100% DTS. And on top of that my references are one star Generals and high ranking civilians that gave me glowing reviews since I saved them so many times the boss's secretary was worried I would take her job. And I didn't mark that I was black on the application, because I know I'm the best because of my skill, not because my skin color

Again what's the reason for the income inequality? Could it be that 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 black men are in prison or on Parole. Could it be that they didn't finish high school for whatever reason? Could it be that whenever something doesn't go their way it's instantly blamed on racism? Who wants people like that working for them? This case is a perfect example of that. It's seems crystal clear to me from this shooting that no matter the facts, this guy getting shot is because he was black and had nothing to do with him rushing a cop and breaking the cops face. And the media and now the president are buying in to this B.S. It's like some kind of national collective mental illness.

Again, racism exists. It will always exist on some level. Some people by nature treat those that are not the same as them differently. Not just concerning race. Income, ethnicity, whatever. I was pulled over when I lived in Montreal because (I think) I had Texas plates on my car. When the cop came up to the window and said something to me in French, I said something to him in English. He got about 6 inches from my face and started screaming at me about speaking to him in English and that I wasn't speaking to him in French. Most people in Thailand think I'm a millionaire because I'm white. A lot of people in Thailand (and the U.S.) thinks my wife's a hooker because she married a white guy. People in the U.S. think that because she comes from Thailand.

So newsflash, some people will always treat you differently for whatever reason. Race, language, ethnicity, income, whatever. You can spend all your time being angry about it, or go on about your business and understand there are stupid people in the world. I choose the latter.

Janelle? I suspect if she gets out bed and stubs her toe on the way to the john, it's somehow related to racism.

How anyone can see that double standard and think it's perfectly normal is beyond me.

Serious question. Why does someone need an AR-15? I'm not saying they shouldn't be able to buy one, I just don't know what they're used for.

You seem fixated on the criminal aspect of this. But when there are issues with black people with no criminal record being paid less than a white person, there should be concern.

I'm not talking about hoodlums who want to be lawyers. You seem to be mixing up the two. I'm talking about those who don't let anyone hold them back, but are still affected by institutionalized racism.

Well 1 in 4 is a large percentage. I'd guess it has something to do with that income inequality.

I have to call you out.

I don’t care what the media says. I expect them to get it wrong and they often do. But I expect you as a veteran law enforcement commander—talking about law enforcement—to get it right.

Unfortunately, you blew it. After days of rioting and looting, last Thursday you were given command of all law enforcement operations in Ferguson by Governor Jay Nixon. St. Louis County PD was out, you were in. You played to the cameras, walked with the protestors and promised a kinder, gentler response. You were a media darling. And Thursday night things were better, much better.

But Friday, under significant pressure to do so, the Ferguson Police released the name of the officer involved in the shooting of Michael Brown. At the same time the Ferguson Police Chief released a video showing Brown committing a strong-arm robbery just 10 minutes before he was confronted by Officer Darren Wilson.

Many don’t like the timing of the release of the video. I don’t like that timing either. It should have been released sooner. It should have been released the moment FPD realized that Brown was the suspect.

Captain Johnson, your words during the day on Friday helped to fuel the anger that was still churning just below the surface. St. Louis County Police were told to remain uninvolved and that night the rioting and looting began again. For much too long it went on mostly unchecked. Retired St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch tweeted that your “hug-a-looter” policy had failed.

Boy did it.

And your words contributed to what happened Friday night and on into the wee hours of Saturday. According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, you said the following regarding the release of the video: “There was no need to release it,” Johnson said calling the reported theft and the killing entirely different events.

Well Captain, this veteran police officer feels the need to respond. What you said is, in common police vernacular—bullshit. The fact that Brown knew he had just committed a robbery before he was stopped by Officer Wilson speaks to Brown’s mindset. And Captain, the mindset of a person being stopped by a police officer means everything, and you know it.

Let’s consider a few examples:

On February 15, 1978 Pensacola Police Officer David Lee conducted a vehicle check. He didn’t know what the sole occupant of the vehicle had recently done, but the occupant did. Who was he? Serial killer Ted Bundy. Bundy attempted to disarm Lee. Lee was able to retain his firearm and eventually took Bundy into custody.

On April 19, 1995 Oklahoma State Trooper Charlie Hangar stopped a vehicle for minor traffic violations. He didn’t know that 90 minutes earlier the traffic violator, Timothy McVeigh, killed 168 people with a truck bomb at the Murrah Federal Building. But McVeigh sure knew it, didn’t he? Fortunately, given his training and experience Hangar was able to take McVeigh into custody for carrying a concealed firearm. It was days later before it was determined that McVeigh was responsible for the bombing.

On May 31, 2003 then-rookie North Carolina police officer, Jeff Postell, arrested a man digging in a trash bin on a grocery store parking lot—an infraction that would rise to about the level of jaywalking. Postell didn’t know that he had just captured Eric Rudolph, the man whom years earlier had killed and injured numerous people with bombs and was on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list.

So now, let’s consider Ferguson Officer Darren Wilson’s stop of Michael Brown. Apparently Wilson didn’t know that Brown had just committed a strong-arm robbery. But Brown did! And that Captain, is huge.

Allegedly, Brown pushed Wilson and attempted to take Wilson’s gun. We’re also being told that Officer Wilson has facial injuries suffered during the attempt by Brown to disarm him. Let’s assume for a moment those alleged acts by Brown actually occurred. Would Brown have responded violently to an officer confronting him about jaywalking? Maybe, but probably not.

Is it more likely that he would attack an officer believing that he was about to be taken into custody for a felony strong-arm robbery? Absolutely.

Officer Wilson survived the encounter with Brown as did Lee, Hangar, and Postell. Michael Brown didn’t survive and it’s too soon to say if Officer Wilson’s use of deadly force was justified and legal. You and I both know that not all officers survive such confrontations. Officers die in incidents like this Captain Johnson, including a couple that I remember from your own organization:

On April 15, 1985 Missouri Trooper Jimmie Linegar was shot and killed by a white supremacist he and his partner stopped at a checkpoint; neither Trooper Linegar nor his partner were aware that the man they had stopped had just been indicted by a federal grand jury for involvement in a neo-Nazi group accused of murder. The suspect immediately exited the vehicle and opened fire on him with an automatic weapon.

Just a month before, Missouri Trooper James M. Froemsdorf was shot and killed—with his own gun—after making a traffic stop. When the Trooper made that stop he didn’t know that the driver was wanted on four warrants out of Texas—But again the suspect knew it.

So Captain Johnson, I guess the mindset and recently committed crimes of the suspects that murdered those Missouri Troopers didn’t mean anything. The stops by the Troopers, as you have said, are entirely different events right?

Bullshit.

The military version of it. Back in the day when you did travel, you have to get orders created from one office, go get tickets from SATO or Carson Wagonlit, and get a rental car and hotel by calling up both places and making reservations. DTS takes all that and combines it into one website. The site is meant to be DIY, but most people can't stand it so there are people whose sole job is to work with it. I did this in Japan for 3 years straight, 12 hours a day, and multiple calls on the weekend. My EOT award was written on it, and here I wasn't supposed to do it, but when they found out I was fluent, they took it from an officer and gave it to me.

Sounds like a cool gig actually. Can you get any kind of free travel out of the deal, or does the govt. frown on that?

This wasn't really aimed at you. More at the mentality here that black people deserve to be treated this way.

It is to me since I love doing the job. No free hookups, but you have be careful. You have folks that will do their own travel, but they do things like add days that aren't authorized, or stay at a hotel that's way above the per diem , or my personal favorite, using the government travel card to purchase something that shows up on the bill as "Asian Entertainment".

So a website that is so hard to use that they need specialists to help people use it?

Oh, Federal government, you so crazy.

It took me about 2 years to master it. What's funny is it's supposed to be user friendly.

One of these days they will have Deloitte build a user friendly website and you'll be out of a job. Making a career out of knowing how to use poorly designed software is never a good decision.

That said, sounds like you're positioned for an easy (relatively speaking) segue into auditing.

Obviously, it is not.

The first time I went to Japan I went to some "club" in Tokyo called Climax. I was there for about an hour and a half and got a $1500 charge on my company AMEX. I had to call my boss in the U.S. and try to explain that. Turns out he had the same thing happen to him at that same club, so he approved it and just said don't do it again.
