did you change your name to get hired ?

I do look at thins objectively, because I have seen far more than you will ever see in 10 life times. I also know white people and how much attitudes have changed. I know one night I was watching a documentary on Selma and Montgomery, with my 80 year old mom. She looked at me, and said. You know son, we really did treat them badly back then didn't we. I said yes mom, we sure did . (My mom was raised in the 20's and 30' to a wealthy south Ga family and got brought up with the Scarlett Ohara mind set.". I say that because, wow the change I saw in her during her life. Even had a black man over for supper, with her bridge group. I know that sounds silly, but for that age range, that is a big step.

I worked in management for 30 years. I know what was discussed behind doors, and I also know that we always strived to consider race in things, and make sure we were fair. Things are not the dark dank oppressive brand of racism you peddle in this country.

Funny story, when my mom was getting really sick, she was in the hospital. A black nurse was helping her. My mom had to get to know everyone. So she asked her where she was from. When she told her, she started telling her .. Ooo My black friend so and so is from there. She must have pointed out she was black 5 times. I almost died. When the nurse left i explained to her, that if someones race was not important to the story, Constantly bringing it up made one appear racist. She understood.

I'm pretty sure Marvin isn't an ethnic sounding name. But since you really don't believe this happen:

Most of those interviewed described their strategy as a way to eliminate one more potential obstacle that might keep them from at least getting the chance to make it to an interview so they could present their case in person. Experts said that course might be wise. Filed in July, the lawsuit accuses the clothier of adopting a policy of firing black employees and denying them promotions and pay raises in favor of hiring white workers who better fit the company's "brand image."

Cogdell, one of the named plaintiffs in the suit, contended that she was fired after a senior executive visited the store and said that the manager should have "blond hair and blue eyes."

"When you have emails that put in writing a kind of discriminatory policy like this, it is very unusual, and that is what motivated the EEOC to issue this kind of ruling," said Moore, a lawyer at the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People.

Do you know what that means? That was last year, not 50 years ago. And the company had this IN WRITING.

Yeah the massive difference in the crime rates and single motherhood in the black community are all the fault of racism. Those are the real issues. Some black folks can continue to blame the racist boogeyman for all their problems, and they'll continue to be at the bottom of the income scale. Until black folks in this country start taking responsibility for their own lives and their own actions, nothing at all will change. We can come back and have this conversation in 30 years, and nothing at all will have changed.

Personally I think the public in general are getting tired of hearing these sob stories. I know I am. You'll always be able to find these one off stories of how this or that guy was done wrong because of his race. Those stories will always be there.

The black community has been give billions of dollars over the years, had programs like bussing and affirmative action, and it hasn't done one damn thing to increase their lot in life. The percentage of black folks living at or below the poverty level has remained constant since the 1970s.

It's always someone else's fault. I get it.

I don't believe anyone has said that. But is this the only thing that matters?

This is why a real talk on racism can't be had. What's highlighted above is the only thing folks want do discuss. Let's ignore everything else and focus on that, because that's on them, not us.

That's where it starts. At home with the family unit. But hey people want to spend all their time and attention on some thug that got killed in Florida trying to be a bada$$, or some guy in MO that assaulted a cop and got killed for it. Yet, people are all up in arms marching for that B.S. People should be spending their energy on fixing the real issues in their communities. This thing in MO and that thing last year in Florida are a pimple on a gnat's a$$ compared to the real problems. Fixing the real problems would require looking inward, and by god people can't do that. It has to be the fault of racism!! As I said in my original post, all these programs have been instituted for YEARS. IT hasn't done one bit of good. It has in fact had the opposite effect. It's given black folks an out when they fail. It's given them an excuse to not accept personal responsibility.

Something bad happened in my life or in my community? Can't be my fault!! It's because I'm black and the racist world is out to get me!! Never mind that I bum rushed some cop and tried to take his gun, or started pounding someones head in to the pavement. No that had nothing to do with it at all. It was all because they were black.

So carry on with the "We're all victims" B.S. Just don't whine to me when things are the same in 30 years, because when they are, the people blaming racism for their problems will only have themselves to blame.

Take a look. But here is my point.

Your line of thought is part of the problem. It's easy to say fix the home first, then everything else will work itself out. So are you saying that the folks who come from good homes, study and work hard to overcome whatever obstacles they faced, should be silent when they're told we can't hire you because you don't have blonde hair and blue eyes? When a black teen is gunned down and left in the street for 4 hours, not covered up or anything, that's our fault?

I've said it, along with Janelle, that there is a problem within the black community as a whole. It's been pretty much documented. The issue is, when we stop talking about us and point out the hire rate for blacks with the same, if not better credentials, than whites, it gets uncomfortable.

The real reason we can't talk about Racism. Is .. Ferguson is the perfect example. They don't care about facts, truth or justice. All they know is they want the police officer in jail. regardless of the facts and are not making bones about saying it .

Yes you can post this link or that link, where some guy got falsely arrested or falsely accused of shoplifting. Is that why black communties are filled with single mothers, drugs, and crime ? Is that why black children don't perform in school ?

As Karee said, we have changed we welcomed the changes, but we are tired of the cry of Racism, every time a black person does not get want they want

So tell me Marvin, you got hired over the phone by a company that is willing to wait many months on you to start. Unheard of .

What exact skill set do you have that is so rare and so in demand, that they were willing to wait on you like that. I mean it must be mighty special, because not only did they do that, you are black, which you keep telling us makes it impossible for you to get a job ?

Again what's the reason for the income inequality? Could it be that 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 black men are in prison or on Parole. Could it be that they didn't finish high school for whatever reason? Could it be that whenever something doesn't go their way it's instantly blamed on racism? Who wants people like that working for them? This case is a perfect example of that. It's seems crystal clear to me from this shooting that no matter the facts, this guy getting shot is because he was black and had nothing to do with him rushing a cop and breaking the cops face. And the media and now the president are buying in to this B.S. It's like some kind of national collective mental illness.

Again, racism exists. It will always exist on some level. Some people by nature treat those that are not the same as them differently. Not just concerning race. Income, ethnicity, whatever. I was pulled over when I lived in Montreal because (I think) I had Texas plates on my car. When the cop came up to the window and said something to me in French, I said something to him in English. He got about 6 inches from my face and started screaming at me about speaking to him in English and that I wasn't speaking to him in French. Most people in Thailand think I'm a millionaire because I'm white. A lot of people in Thailand (and the U.S.) thinks my wife's a hooker because she married a white guy. People in the U.S. think that because she comes from Thailand.

So newsflash, some people will always treat you differently for whatever reason. Race, language, ethnicity, income, whatever. You can spend all your time being angry about it, or go on about your business and understand there are stupid people in the world. I choose the latter.

Janelle? I suspect if she gets out bed and stubs her toe on the way to the john, it's somehow related to racism.

100's of black kids gunned down in Chicago, while we were fixated on black kid who got killed in Fla, simply because a white man did it. Let that sink in

How anyone can see that double standard and think it's perfectly normal is beyond me.

If you lived in NY state today after sandy hook you can no longer buy an AR-15

Serious question. Why does someone need an AR-15? I'm not saying they shouldn't be able to buy one, I just don't know what they're used for.
