yeah, marvin gets all his racial insights and perception from inflammatory websites and a steady diet of 'powder puff' racism (#######). in no way shape or form does his actual existence as a black man come into play.

i know you always think i'm hating on you, but this is one of the dumbest posts i've read from you. hall of fame dumb.

Exactly. On the basis of a couple of 'powder puff' racism news stories it seems to have become perfectly acceptable to ignore or flat-out deny the voice of a black person to talk about their experiences.

It certainly isn't open minded.

It's bad. I can't recall when things were this divided. I think some of the problem is so many have never seen real racism and oppression. People lose their mind because a police officer rests his hand on his gun or because some rent a cop wrongly accused someone of shoplifting. The cosntant screaming of racism over minor everyday #######, we all have to deal with has become deafening, to the point, most white people just tune it out or to be frank, are just fed up with it. Now we have this incident in which, black leaders are openly saying "they don't care about the evidence", they want a conviction. Wrap your mind around that. we use to call those things "lynch Mobs". Feathering the nest of poverty pimps, and race baiters has become full time jobs for many.

I have seen black prisoners beaten in jail cells, separate water fountains and bathrooms. I have seen a white man given a pass for running a School bus stop sign and killing a black child. what was the excuse. Well he, did not mean to and he was just in a hurry, the guy was never even arrested. I have lived in a time and place in which, although the county was 50% black, a black could not dream of holding public office, or heck even being a cashier at the local grocery store. I have had a conversation with the 4th grader sitting next to me in school, about what it was like to have bullets flying over their head, as white men shot into their home, because daddy dared speak up for equal rights. I can remember the back door to Sams restaurant, at which blacks could come to get a plate if they wanted one.

I am so sorry, if a security guard looked at you, when you were shopping or police officer acted nervous when he stopped you. Grow up. Not everything is about race, and yes you may still encounter some weirdo who is rude to you or insults you. Deal with it. Pull your pants up, put down your 40's and start installing some values in your kids. I am a white man who recognizes the past, recognizes the current plight to overcome poverty, but i am feed up with every ill of black society being blamed on the racism of people of my skin tone.

To piggy back off of Hail,

The issue with racism now is unless it's in your face, like you describe, people discount anything less. You're talking about old school racism, which is way worse. But that doesn't discount the issues black people and other minorities continue to face. The KKK and N-word aren't a litmus test for racism. For you, unless they're out there with the water hoses and dogs and the idiots in the white sheets burning crosses, anything else is just an uncomfortable situation.

Marvin is like my white friends, that watch Fox News 24/7 without ever balancing it with Cnn. The post post after post every night from far right blogs, and believe Hannity, when he Says ISIS has won because Obama was playing Golf. They are good guys, they just have their head in a tunnel and refuse to see the big picture.

Marvin is the same way, in that he keeps his head in inflammatory web sites like the root, and feed himself a daily diet of isolated incidents, in which some racial slight is perceived, until that is all he knows. When Oprah does not get shown a pocket book or some poor urban kid gets wrongly accused of shop lifting, he digests that feast of Powder Puff racism, until he is convinced the whole world hates him for being black.

Please tell me someone has hijacked your account.

Marvins's experiences as a black man do come into play, just like my experiences dealing with black people also come into play. Just like my right wing friends on FB, they have a set of experiences also. everyone does. I have no doubt that at some point in his life, he has experienced racism, the hurt your feelings kind, not the kind I have seen, the kind of threat ends your life.

All I am saying is that Marvin is so convinced the whole world hates black people, that he can't get his head out of it. He tell us time and time again, that White America would rather hire a white with a felony, than an equally qualified black. I have hired people for 30 years, and that is just BS. How did he get hired sight unseen, with a phone interview, by a company that was willing to wait months for him to report. I suspect he did not get hired, despite being black, but largely because of it. That is un heard of. Statements like white neighborhoods itching to shoot blacks. It is just the rhetoric of the black leadership that want to kep us divided and hating each other,

As far as your personal jabs, ;) No offense taken. We roll like that dear. The key hear is knowing who you can good on and who you can't. The hall of fame of dumb part actually made me laugh. I had just finished cooking my wife's breakfast and setting her place. She hollered back, hun whats so funny ?

This is what you're not understanding - your experiences are unique in that you are white. marvin will never ever know what it is like to be a white. he can listen to your stories and he can appreciate your experience, but he will never have the full realization of being a white man in america. so no, not 'just like' your experiences in 'dealing with' black people.

Here's the thing.

I point out legitimate issues. Like people that have to change their names to get hired. This happens. Like places that have to pay out money because they don't want black people in management positions. This happens. You're framing your personal experience as a placemat for what happens in the real world. Just because you hire based on merit doesn't mean everyone else does. Look at the unemployment rate for black people, it's double than the national average. Look at the wage gap between black and white people for the same qualification.

I know from traveling all the places I've been that we don't have the best reputation. I mean think about this. We pull into Russia and it's in the liberty brief. If you're black, you need to be careful. That's mandated from the Chief of Staff. In my wife's home country, there's folks on our FB that had to be dropped because when they saw who she married, it was an issue. In Korea and China, we had issues being served. Japan wouldn't let me into clubs without being endorsed by a woman I was with, but the white guys behind me walk in with no issues. Even other members have shared their views on this.

The root shows things that happen to black people. Some articles I discard, others do highlight problems. Try to look at it from an objective point of view, you might see things differently.

i give up.

From the other thread:

We can't have an honest conversation about race without giving primacy of place to history and class as it affected attitudes toward race. Unless we talk about how the contemporary atmosphere of violence developed directly from the atmosphere of violence that blacks were continually subjected to by the agents of the state we can't comprehend it. Likewise we can't understand the resentment of having been left behind among poor blacks without comprehending how capitalism with its strong emphasis on acquisition of private property as the only avenue for the acquisition of social status divided middle class and poor blacks, middle class and poor whites and sowed jealousy and incomprehension all around in a strategy of divide and conquer by the elite, played out largely in the urban job market and the payment based education system that determines your position in it.

It's probably fair to point out that racial inequality and racism are not the same thing. Even in the absence of racism, racial inequalities persist. Of course it is entirely accurate to say that today's racial inequalities exist largely because of the racism of yesterday.

In countries like Japan, I'd agree. Unless you're one of them, you're an outsider. Being white here does give one an advantage most folks don't know they have.

You guys want to hear a joke?

did you change your name to get hired ?

I do look at thins objectively, because I have seen far more than you will ever see in 10 life times. I also know white people and how much attitudes have changed. I know one night I was watching a documentary on Selma and Montgomery, with my 80 year old mom. She looked at me, and said. You know son, we really did treat them badly back then didn't we. I said yes mom, we sure did . (My mom was raised in the 20's and 30' to a wealthy south Ga family and got brought up with the Scarlett Ohara mind set.". I say that because, wow the change I saw in her during her life. Even had a black man over for supper, with her bridge group. I know that sounds silly, but for that age range, that is a big step.

I worked in management for 30 years. I know what was discussed behind doors, and I also know that we always strived to consider race in things, and make sure we were fair. Things are not the dark dank oppressive brand of racism you peddle in this country.

Funny story, when my mom was getting really sick, she was in the hospital. A black nurse was helping her. My mom had to get to know everyone. So she asked her where she was from. When she told her, she started telling her .. Ooo My black friend so and so is from there. She must have pointed out she was black 5 times. I almost died. When the nurse left i explained to her, that if someones race was not important to the story, Constantly bringing it up made one appear racist. She understood.

Go for it.

An American spy lands in Russia, ready to carry out his mission.

Everything goes well, and he successfully integrates himself into Russian society.

After six months, he suddenly gets arrested for being a spy. He asks them, "What happened guys, What did I do?"

And they say, "Oh, we knew you were a spy the whole time! We were just messing with you! It made us laugh!"

The spy says "Really? But how did you know? Is my Russian not good enough?"

"Oh no, your Russian has no grammatical mistakes."

"Maybe my accent? Is my accent wrong?"

"No, no, your accent is perfect. Really, your Russian is impeccable."

They spy asks, "Then maybe my manners are incorrect? My clothes? My haircut?"

"No, no, everything like that is really good, perfect, very convincing."

The spy says, "Then what can it be? How can you tell?"

The Russians say, "Well, Vladimir, you're black."
