I get the impression he was not considered a suspect at the time.

The entire story stinks. If he was a suspect, they could have rolled up and arrested him.

maybe they were trying to talk to him. when the cop was getting out of the car, he hit the cop & went for his gun?

i'm taking the cops word over someone that said 'the cop tried to pull him into the car' seriously? does that even sound like a possibility to anyone?

Seems like they were walking in the road and the cop told him to get on the pavement.

And some believe any story as long as it fits in with their personal agenda. The initial threads on this story were - terrible - slamming the press for not reporting both sides of the story (false) and being slow to report the witness (also false - it was the next day).

We should maybe let the full story come out before deciding what happened and slamming other people for looking at all aspects. I don't see anyone knee-jerk saying this was justified.. The "Majority" just wants the full story. Good for them for not jumping to conclusions.

i didn't find the initial threads terrible or self serving. i completely maintain that the mainstream press in this country is a pitiful attempt at what journalism once was. i don't care if michael brown had a gun pointed directly at the officer when he was shot - the press did not report both sides of the story because they do not ask nor demand answers to the hard questions. they're still not doing it.

and as for the full story, there's more to this one. just because the cops gave their version of events, does not mean this death was justified. it is apparent that is a powder keg of a problem going on with the fergusion community and their cops. all those people weren't marching this entire week over one incident and all those cops weren't full on ready to war with them over just a few days of civil disobedience either.

Agreed 100%. There's too many conflicting things being reported on this story mixed with my overall lack of interest to really move me to form an opinion one way or another at this point.

no. maybe it's something akin to what harpa was speaking of...the value of life. i know a few cops and i'd have to say that, depending upon where they work and what their day-to-day consists of on a regular basis, it should be pretty easy to grow a bit jaded and blurring the boundaries of a healthy uh, what do they call it in the antiabortion realm..sanctity of life.

Where is the outrage over Ezell Ford? Why isn't LA being burned to the ground?

la's still exhausted from oscar grant.

Looks like just another thug... If this is correct

Police tried to question this what 300 pound "child" and is it possible he pins the police against his car .It goes down hill from there

olice respond

Police chief said the confrontation between Brown and the officer had absolutely nothing to do with the theft that occurred earlier. The tussle seems to still be as a result of two individuals Jay walking. Edited by aaydrian

I agree with you on all but one point Harpa. If a person decides to break into someone's home, whether armed or not, and they end up dead I will not lose sleep over it, nor do I believe the homeowner should ever be held responsible for it. I'm not saying that they deserve to die, I'm just saying if that is the outcome, I'm ok with it. A persons home is their sacred ground.

I disagree. I am not okay with it in many instances. People are too shoot-crazy, and this line of thinking is being fed to them by the NRA, that they need to be afraid, and ready to shoot, at anything and everything. If the burglar is not actively attacking people in their home, take your gun and point it at them, and tell them to get the hell out of your house, don't kill them. And don't kill them when they are running away, or leaving, or have their back turned, or a million other things.

so, why was he shot again?

Bingo. I find myself agreeing with you way to much.

The hysterical, "some people think he deserved to die, for stealing cigars, is just that hysteria, no one thinks that. It does however change they dynamics of the whole situation, from it was just two Innocent kids, who did nothing more than walk in the street. It sets a possible mind set that goes from, innocent kid minding his own business, to a person who had just committed a felony with violence who was attempting to not be arrested.

It also casts serious doubt on the witness who was with him.

From what I am reading, it seems likely that the events we have been feed up until today, are not correct. It also seems likely, that there was an altercation and Brown did attack the police officer and a shot was fired in the car. At this point deadly force is justified.

Now what remains to be established in my mind is, after being shot once. Did Brown flee, then turn to with his hands up and at the point was he shot several more times ??

But Harpa? what if they take a few steps toward the door and turn around and open fire on you and your family ?

The NRA is not feeding them anything... That is an idea promoted by the anti gun crowd. that anyone who owns a gun is crazy....we are just looking for the next person to kill.. Drink the kool-aid. Please show us where the NRA encourages a person to shoot someone in the back. or running away.....
