call for back up?

he was with his car?

he has a baton, taser?

are cops not trained to apprehend grown men without killing them? or having the odds 5:1?

So you got a 6'4 300 lb man who just tried to take your gun, rushing you at fulll speed. He will be on you in seconds. Call back up. Seriously ? Try your luck with a club? Try to get your taser out ?

How about the cop, who has already been injured by this big man, why should he have to risk being killed by someone who just tried to kill him and is coming back for more.

I posted a clip on the tuller drill. 21 ft in 1.5 seconds. a person can travel. . You had a discharge from the officers gun in a struggle. The officer was injured. (head injury) The suspect was coming back for a 2nd try for the gun after overpowering the officer. ... (300 pound person) . sop is to stop the suspect with any force needed..... Folks like you think you can shoot a gun out of a persons hand at 50 yards during a firefight in a low light situation.... Just because they do this in the movies real life is different.. so different...

The cop should have asked him nicely, one more time to stop

aw. poor helpless cop had to shoot to KILL an unarmed citizen. it takes a special sort of person to be a cop. if you don't have what it takes, don't be one.

What kind of person does it take? One who has been and can be attacked with or without a weapon and react the way all of us armchair cops think they should? How about being shot at? If someone shoots at a cop and misses, the cop shouldn't shoot back? If someone attempts to take the cops gun away, should he assume the other person just wants to admire it or would he think it will be used against him? You know, like the anti gun crowed says your own gun will most likely be used against you, or doesn't that apply to cops? Of course all of this happens in a split second and decisions are made without sleeping on them.

It's a tough position to be put in. I don't know if the cop overreacted or not. And neither does anyone here.

you know what spooks, you're right. we should completely trust cops to use lethal force whenever they feel threatened. from the link i posted earlier, that's the law MO has adopted and i guess now you're seeing the sort of environment that creates in the streets.

most of your questions involve a perp with a weapon, michael brown didn't have one. keep that in mind.

I have in know way suggested trusting cops to use lethal force. My whole point is for all the armchair analysts to reverse roles and put yourself in the cops position. Did the kid try to take the cops gun? Was there a struggle to prevent him from taking the gun? That's a key part of this. Did he charge the cop? I don't know if the cop overreacted or not without knowing the answer to these to questions.

If that's the law in MO, then it looks like there isn't a case against the cop no matter what. I guess people should stop rioting and fight to change the law instead.

it seems to me, from reading this article, that is why the violence and unrest are coming to a head. this has been an ongoing issue for the community.

They need to protest effectively, not violently and recklessly. This law effects everyone in MO, not just blacks.

SMH Amazing. Val I really don't have words to repute that. I think it is so repugnant and insulting to all police officers and law abiding citizens, that it speaks for itself.

Much like the protestors said on a sign, we should sacrifice a cop for harmony.. Sad

It is not abnormal for a police office to pull over a woman, with his gun halfway out of the holster? Let me guess? Black women have a history of shooting at the police, yes? Please explain to me the reason for hostility other than this non-sense answer you threw together right quick to pat yourself on the back for nothing.

Most times you are pulled over. Glad you aren't black. I'd hate for you to have an experience like mine's or other black people.

No, it is not abnormal. It is the SOP in most departments that I know of, because said officer that pulls you over has no idea who you are, what you are on, etc. You may have just murdered someone and have the body in your trunk, and have no compulsion against killing a cop to keep your secret. It's not hostility, it's self-preservation. And I'm not patting myself on the back, just trying to educate you.

Try to remember that while there are too many "bad cops" out there, there are also many, many more who are good, decent folks. And they put their lives on the line every day. Not knowing when the next gun will be pulled on them, when their lives will end or they will be permananently crippled because they hesitated or got careless for one second.

If I were black, I'd behave the same way I do now. Pull over, roll down the window (unless it's really hot outside), keep my hands in plain sight, and cooperate. And I'd prolly get treated as a good citizen who (perhaps) broke a law and was being addressed for it.

really? it's insulting to realize and fully understand that it takes a special kind of person to be a good cop? a certain type of character, demeanor, skill? how is that repugnant?

i didn't know i was supposed to feel a certain way about cops depending upon gender.

if a cop should be an asswhipping machine & be able to take down a 300lb man w/o a gun. how do you feel about female cops? its really not a hard question. either they should or shouldn't be cops. which is it?
