Hello - My fiance is from Peru and we have just started arranging the i-129F packet for a K1 (fiance) visa.

Albert, my fiance, would like to come visit my family in Chicago while this process is happening. Does anyone know if it is possible to be applying for a tourist visa at the same time we are applying for a K1 visa? We don't want to do anything to jeopardize the K1 visa, as this is more important in the long term than the tourist visa.

Thanks in advance for any help.

-Lauren

these two visas are adjudicated differently....the tourist visa requires that she convince the Co she will return to Peru (instead of staying in the US, marrying you and never going back, in order to circumvent the K1 process); while the K1 is designed for her to go to the US, get married and stay put.....hmmmm.....sounds like the objective is the same......stay put...she will have to convince the CO otherwise, which will be challenging......and no, there is not a paper on the planet that will convince the CO that she will return.....letters from you, from friends, from whomever, job offers, etc....none of those will do the trick, especially in this situation....however, it costs only around $160 to find out....but don't be surprised when her tourist visa application gets denied.

Hi Lauren,

Speaking from my own experience, my now wife tried to obtain a tourist visa early last year 2013 and even though she had ways to prove that she has assets, and a business, and ties to Peru, her tourist visa was denied.

She was very forward and honest with the CO and when asked the reason for coming to the USA she said she was coming to visit me for my birthday and that we were planning to go to my best friends wedding as I was the best man and she was invited and then we would travel a bit, but still her visa got denied.

So I would say it is very unlikely that your fiance would get a tourist visa, but it would only cost you $160 to try and see if your fiance is lucky enough to get a tourist visa.

Best of luck!

Jorge

I think it is a he and he can certainly apply.

I would go the K-1 route and get married within the required 90 days. These visa's are adjudicated differently and must demonstrate the intent to return. You cannot demonstrate this thus you will need to apply for the K-1.
