Former President George W. Bush says President Obama shouldn’t be criticized for playing golf

This is from September 2013. In an interview with the Golf Channel, the former commander in chief said the game presents an ‘outlet’ from the ‘pressures of the job.’

I see our President criticized for playing golf. I don’t. I think he ought to play golf,' former President George W. Bush said.

When it comes to golf, there’s no wedge between former President George W. Bush and his successor, President Obama.

Bush, in an interview with the Golf Channel, said too many people unfairly disapprove of how often Obama plays the game.

“I see our President criticized for playing golf. I don't. I think he ought to play golf," Bush said.

“I know what it’s like to be in the bubble,” added Bush, who, at times during his own presidency, was judged for playing the sport. “I know the pressures of the job and to be able to get outside and play golf with some of your pals is important … it gives you an outlet.”

Obama, who has played 146 rounds of golf according to CBS News, has been chastised several times by fellow lawmakers for how often he plays.

In March, Texas Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert, a frequent critic, went as far as submitting an amendment to proposed legislation that would have banned Obama from using federal funds to travel to or from golf courses.

By comparison, Bush played 24 rounds of golf through the first 34 months of his presidency, according to CBS News, but stopped in 2003 because he didn’t want to be seen by the country as a leader who took the nation being at war lightly.

“I don’t want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf,” he said in a 2008 interview.

But both his and Obama’s tastes for the sport pale in comparison to those of other past Presidents.

Former President Woodrow Wilson is thought to have played nearly 1,200 rounds of golf, while former President Dwight Eisenhower reportedly played 800 rounds of the sport.

Bush said this primarily because, regardless of what you think of his politics, he's a gentleman; not a petty, thin-skinned man-child. Bush also made this comment because he realizes the damage this preznit wreaks when he's inside the oval office.

Your posts are so ironic, I'm thinking you do it on purpose.

If English were my first language, I would be rolling on the floor laughing. I would even venture into big word territory and say that you've hit it out of the ballpark, but that would require a comprehension of American metaphors that escape me, as it would any non-English native speaker.

If English were my first language I would say that regardless of how disastrous his administration, W never planned to destroy America or sink the country into a recession. He made some bad and terrible decisions but it does not mean he was evil, the antichrist, the chupa-cabras or all three combined. He did what he believed right and as with any other president he too had to compromise and perhaps sell out to a certain degree. When it comes to golf, just ask any CEO what playing golf is really about. In the corporate world playing golf is where deals are closed and compromises are met. Of course, the motley crew wouldn't know that, since the sport doesn't involve booze, stock cars or shooting something.

The Obama deniers screamed when Bush played golf or went on Vacation, and the people with ODS scream when Obama does it. Ironically they get mad when the other side does it . It's silly and distracts from the real damage both men did and are doing to our country.

The middle has spoken... Peace be with you

This is the most bi-partisan thing you've said all year.

You do know you're part of the second group right?
