2 birth certificates for i-130 and i-485

My attorney mailed the package last week. This week, she mailed us a copy of the whole content of the package.

Checking the package, I noticed that she mailed only one copy of the intended immigrant's birth certificate. According to the step-by-step guide here, it was supposed to be two copies, one for the i-130 and one for the i-485. Should I be worried that she mailed only one?

I believe that for the I-130 you can file either a copy of passport or a birth certificate, the I-485 does require it for sure. If it's missing and it's needed, you will probably receive a RFE where they'll ask you for it, so I wouldn't be too worried.

We sent two copies, one per form just like you mentioned. We didn't hire an attorney, we did it on our own and it took us about 3 months to learn the process and understand how it needs to be done. It took us 3 solid weeks on putting everything together ( filling up forms, gathering documentation, double checking every line, every question, etc) , I did my own BC translation to English .It sure was a very overwhelming process

The alien's birth certificate is only a required document for the I-485, not the I-130.

I noticed that the guides on here are not always accurate. Instead, you should go by the instruction PDFs available from the USCIS website for each form you file. They are authoritative on the matter.

The instructions for the I-485 say that you should include a copy of the intending immigrant's birth certificate (source: http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-485instr.pdf, "Initial Evidence" section, item 2).

The instructions for the I-130 make no mention of any such requirement, so another birth certificate is not required (source: http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-130instr.pdf).
