Can someone please help me to find a cheap airline ticket for my fiance from Egypt? Where is the best place to look? United Airlines wants 1,700 at the beginning of September. This is of course if he gets his Visa in hand soon.

I like kayak.com. I usually find the best prices there. You can save money by flying on a Monday or Tuesday. 1700 for a ticket is crazy! But yes, wait til you have the visa in hand. You might be able to find a last minute deal. Try checking prices first thing Tuesdays--at midnight.

kayak.com is one of the best. Sign-up for ticket price alerts for specific dates and general. They will e-mail you everyday. Also keep checking everyday as prices tend to change unpredictably day to day. Summer is the most expensive and prices then to go down in September. Wait until he has visa in hand. Also he should check prices with local travel agency, sometimes they have different pricing than we can find in USA. Also remeber sometimes one was ticket is more expensive than round-trip. Play with dates, departures and returns, it all varies. Also try different connections for countries he does not need visa. Inbox me and I can help you when you know the dates :)

The cheapest flight is Etihad airline at about $600 but its a 28 hour flight from Cairo to Detroit and has 2 layovers around Sept 19.

For a single layover (16 hour flight), it's going for about $900 to $1000).

I found them on Google flight search.

Also look at the destination airport. I am considering having my Fiancé and her child flying to O'Hare instead of Detroit Metro as it will save $$$$ (two tickets I have twice the problem you have) and with layover they will actually be home sooner.

BTW - congratulations!

Are you looking at one-way or round trip? You can buy either for a K-1 visa holder. If you happened to purchase a RT, just cancel the return portion so there is no question that he did not leave the US. Travelocity.com, orbits.com, kayak.com, expedia.com, Lufthansa.com are all good sources for finding airfare.

Good luck,

Dave

Google Flights is the easiest to look at as many airlines as possible and to see which day is the best to book.

I also find that looking early in the morning (before 8am EST for airlines in the US at least) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays often yields the cheapest results. Then again, my experience is Canada to US travel, I'm sure it's different for every region.

Do not book ticket until he has visa in hand. They tell you 2 wks but can take longer. Also check the price of one way versus round trip, some times a RT can be cheaper. Tickets at last minute from Egypt have never been cheap. I always used cheaptickets.com but shop around even checking the actual airline website for their price.

Kayak.com and Vayama.com are usually the two websites I use to book my tickets to/from Egypt. My husband (then fiance) purchased his ticket through Vayama when he (finally) got his visa. Also, checking on different days will give you different prices. I found that Tuesday/Wednesday mornings many times had the cheapest ticket options.

Thank you very much. I will be coming back here to reference all the advice. I will definitely look on Tuesday/Wednesdays as well to see how much cheaper tickets are than any other day. Doesn't matter to us which day he flies, if it's cheaper, awesome. :D
