Im CDN and my husband is dual CDN /US we've been married for 15 years ...he will work for the same company in houston as he does here in Calgary.....

I've read people who have DCF in Vancouver and back east

Thanks

Yes I know montreal is where the interview will be ...but I've read on other websites of people doing DCF of a I-130 in Vancouver , Toronto ...just trying to find someone who has done it in Calgary recently.....Why would it not be possible to DCF at US consulates in Canada anymore ?.....Can anyone with first hand knowledge help me out here??

Direct filling hasn't been offered in Canada since 2010 or 2011. You can search the archives for exact date, but it is not possible at this time.

That's my direct knowledge. Call the Calgary consulate if you want it from the source/you won't find current or recent DCF applicants from Canada. Thank you, it's been a pleasure...

You should join the Canada subforum, tons of information and details on how to re-establish domicile if you are both living in Canada. Montreal can be picky about that. [i called the Embassy recently, so it is possible to call some diplomatic missions - but I understand why they don't want to use their resources answering questions when the answer is posted on their website]

If you are wanting the try for the Vancouver consulate (I am from Red Deer and went to Montreal) you would have to try for K3. But there is no guarantees that you would be able to continue with the K3 at the NVC stage or that Vancouver would keep it open; but they have done so for one member here. However, K3 costs twice as much as a CR1/IR1. The only way it's feasible is if travel to Montreal would cost you the same as adjusting your status. Because you're from Alberta, either way you have to pay to travel to Vancouver or Montreal. I worked out it would cost me almost as much to travel to Vancouver to do my medical there and then Montreal to do my interview as it would to just say a week in Montreal.

Yeah i think we are going the IR1 route ...how long was your process? also do you file with the Chicago Lockbox or can you choose another ? confused about this part...and i see that some centers are more efficient than others

THanks

If you both live outside of the USA you have no choice but to file with the chicago lockbox. They will route your case to a service center. You do not get to pick the service center.

My process was 8 months from filing the I-130 to moving. However, last year, the NVC was fast. This year the NVC is slow. I would say I had a very quick journey (not as quick as some other's who filed in 2012, but quicker than most who started in 2013.)
