Here is a description of the working holiday visa for the UK.

It is for 2 years and you can work for 12 of the 24 months.

Here is one for Australia. You can't work for one employer more than 6 months in a row on this one.

Indeed - credit the bloke for wanting to travel, to explore, to dream a bit. I don't think it's immaturity as much as hope and hunger. Echoing what Harpa said, I know Australia presents a working holiday visa. Australia's a wonderful country. I could be biased, though. ;)

~ Jan ??,2013 ~ Service Center ~ Vermont I-129F Packet sent

NOTE: Actual sent date unknown due to lawyer negligence - I delivered ALLForms and PAID Lawyer on Nov 7, 2012 - Lawyer kept saying he sent the packet and USCIS must have lost it. When in reality he failed to send the package and only a new copy to USCIS after I made a legal written demand giving him 10 days to perform or return ALL monies paid to him, due to "non-performance".

(IMO it's better to save your money for visits to or from your Fiancé and just fill it out yourself using the K-1 Guide on VJ and Senior Members... They Rock!!!)

Hi, first post so apologies if it's in the wrong place.

I am an 18 year old Brit, I am an engineering apprentice and will be fully qualified with a HNC in 2016 (not sure if that would change anything). I want to move to the US to work and travel for at least a year. I would like to move from state to state and job to job just to help financially, because of this, even if I was qualified enough to apply for a permanent job in the US I wouldn't want to as it would confine me to one state and stop me travelling, which is the whole purpose of the trip. I don't really want to work in a summer camp or any other cultural exchange programs as, again, it would tie me down too much. Is there a visa that will let me work wherever I want in the US for an extended period of time or am I looking for something that does not exist?

Thanks

Kyle.

Here following Harpas' lead... I googled a bit and found other countries that do...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Working_holiday_visa

And actually it looks like USA DOES offer one.. but only for Canadians....

United States of America[edit]
  • Citizens of Canada who are full-time students (or have been within the past 9 months) are eligible for 12-month working holiday permits if obtained through the intermediary organization SWAP.
  • Applicants must be college/university students, or have graduated from college/university within the past twelve months.[32]

Best of luck and many wonderful adventures n your upcoming travels around the world Young Buck!!!

Thank you very much for all of the positive and informative replies. I have had my heart set on moving to the USA for a long long time and only recently after returning from a holiday there have I started looking into it enough to know it's not possible to do what I have been aiming to do.

The 90 day visa waiver program is pretty much the only way I can extensively travel the US, but it means quitting a job with excellent prospects for what can only be a 3 month trip, but I will definitely try to do it at least once. Maybe even find a way of combining a 90 day trip with a year straight after in Aus or NZ.

@Harpa Tisma a working holiday visa is exactly what I'm after, I have always just assumed the US did them.. Thanks for your support and your comments about me not being crazy! Same goes for @snag

I thought that myself, plus it means a full time job which is exactly what I am trying to avoid. Is there anything that would allow me to work and travel in Canada or aus for a similar period if time?

Yes see below.

You can work in Canada on a working holiday visa. Commonwealth countries do them. Lots of Brits, Kiwi's, and Aussies come to Canada to work, especially in the winter at the ski resorts.

This isn't such a crazy question, and I don't think you guys should be so hard on the OP. Some other countries have what they call a working holiday visa, where you can work and travel all at the same time. It's for young people to meet people (cultural exchange) and work a little to pay for the trip. Maybe it's a commonwealth county thing because I have heard of it in Aus, maybe UK, I'm not sure. So it seems he is asking about a program like that.

And the answer it that the US does not have such a program. But don't judge him by US-visa standards. There is a visa that exists like this, in the world, just not in the US.

Good luck, OP.

Good luck! Just remember, millions of people want to move to the United States to live and work. Many can't. Since you have so much time ahead of you, it's best to start planning your route here now if you really have your heart set on moving here.

Again, best of luck to you!

Wait wait....you said something different.......

you have your heart set on "moving here".... do you mean forever?

If you want to move here that is a whole different story....

My original plan was to go over to work and travel at the same time until I no longer wanted to do it, so an indefinite period of time, which is even more impossible than the question I originally asked

OP, have you looked into exchange programs through your university? Some offer internships too

All education options are pretty much out, I don't want to pay thousands of pounds to get a degree when my apprenticeship could provide one for free. I don't go to uni and I don't intend to.

I've made this very hard for myself I know haha
