Affidavit of Support (I-864) minimum income requirement CR1

I am self-employed and working on contract.

My yearly income is below poverty line by few thousands. But I have more than enough assets in checking account to cover five times the difference between poverty line and yearly income.

My assets are well documented and domestic. I have provided 12 months of statements and bank letters with I 864.

I did not get co-sponsor because according to I 864 instructions I met income requirement by adding my assets to my annual income.

I have received checklist from NVC regarding AOS. It says following.

The NVC has received the information you have submitted in reference to the Affidavit of Support. Please be advised that the Affidavit of Support information you have provided does not appear to meet the minimum income requirement according to the current poverty guidelines to sponsor the intending immigrant(s) for this petition. The consular officer will make a decision regarding this requirement at the time of your interview. In order to avoid delays, you may wish to submit an additional Affidavit of Support (Form I-864) for a/another Joint Sponsor to the National Visa Center to assist in sponsoring the intending immigrants. I called NVC and they told me that assets are not taken into account at NVC stage and consular officer will make a decision regarding this requirement at the time of your interview.

Did consular officer consider your assets with your income? Will my checking account balance be considered?

I do not want to delay my case. So I want to figure out this before the interview.

yes they do consider assets. my husbands income is just few dollars above the poverty level but my husband has money in d bank so that helps me and getting an approval from the american consul.

i was so worried also about my husband's affidavit of support as we r just few $$ above the level but i talked to this woman (filipina) she had her interview weeks ago. she said her husband's income is below d poverty level but her husband has money in the bank amounting to $88,000. she said d consul asked for a joint sponsor but she bravely told the consul that we dont need one as my husbands money in d bank is sufficient or enough to sustain or to feed me. then the consul checked d bank statement that they submitted and she got approved.

I am glad to know that assets will be counted. Let me get inputs of few other members just to feel more confident about this. I am really stressed out on this issue.

NVC has suggested me to contact Mumbai consulate to confirm. Is it a good or bad idea?

nvc told us the bring new aos form and his 2013 income tax but it was never asked during my interview. they asked for co sponsor but i told the filipina consul that we dont need it. the american consul never asked for a co sponsor. he okayed my husbands assets. just be confident.

I am confused. have you taken interview yet? What do you mean by Filipina and American consulate?

im done with my interview last august 8 and i got approved.. theres two panel of interviewer. one is filipina/filipino and the final decision is with american consul.

So two different officers took your interview on same interview day??? First filipina officer interviewed you in consulate and then American officer???

yes. and i think that will be d same in other consulates not only in Phils.
