I used to think I was allergic to cats until I adopted Nietzsche. I just think that cats belong inside houses, never outside. They're not dogs. It breaks my heart every time I'm driving and there's a cat on the road. :(

Guess its all about perspective. My fiance had never had a cat who was totally indoors, like mine, and he thought it was very bizarre.

My sister has a cat who is totally outdoors and he wouldn't have it any other way.

Thx for the advice Trace :)

to expand on what nessa was saying, lisa - out where we live, plenty of people have the idea that "i live in the country so my cat can run free" yet they forget that out in the country, there are things like: coyotes - rattlesnakes - the occasional bobcat - that will make short work of their pet, along with the hazard of cat fights, diseases, insects, and so on. and then there is the county road with a 55 mph speed limit.........i see a "flat cat" on that 5 mile stretch of road at least once every 2 weeks. ditto on the above for dogs too, btw.

When we lived out in the country we had couple mostly outside cats but they were allowed in UNTIL one (knocked) on the door to come in, pushed the door open so they could enter not paying much attention to them until one let loose the big field rat they had been carrying!!! Just sounded as if my allergies were being discounted and I just don't want the cat in the house. Which is so far from the truth it's not even funny. I suffer very badly with allergies & regularly see a doc cos they're so bad that I even have a probbo with busted capillaries and frequent nosebleeds. In fact, just being around Mimi makes me feel like #######, then I get into 'do I take an allergy pill or not?' cos I don't react well to allergy pills...no matter how 'non drowsy' they are, I feel like the walking dead.

Maybe I'm being oversensitive, cos I WOULD like her in the house, but it's just not doable.

actually, nessa has allergies too so i really doubt she was discounting that. i understand that you have reasons for your position and also the last i knew of you were not sure of if mimi was someone else's cat anyways and if she was just double dipping in the food tray department. also, the difference between your situation and ours is our cats have been indoor cats all of their lives, mimi is not, so it seems. now let's put away the claws :D

also, i forgot to mention that we do get quite a few cats and dogs "dumped" out here by owners that no longer want them, that might be part of the roadkill monthly tally. either way, it's sad.

Yup.

I have 5 barn cats that while they like to be petted and of course fed by us...they don't like being indoors. Even last year when we got slammed by a hurricane, we tried to get them into the house but they weren't having any part of it...lol. They waited it out under the back porch.

LOL!

My barncats leave me "gifts" at the back door at least once a week.

You just so don't wanna know just what particular gifts these might be...
