(CNN) -- Confrontations between police and residents of a St. Louis suburb raged into the night after the fatal weekend shooting of a teen by an officer.

Crowds gathered Sunday night for a candlelight vigil for Michael Brown, whose shooting death sparked tensions in the Missouri town of Ferguson.

The peaceful gathering turned tense as protesters hurled bottles at officers and kicked police cars parked on the streets with blue lights flashing.

I'll be down there today to meet with my parents.

Just got back. Everything is ok. A lot of shops and stuff are closed due to the issues. The radio has been talking about it all day. Good thing is they're playing old school rap like Self Destruction and Stop the Violence so that's great. And thanks for the concern.

Sounds rather official Marvin. Sounds like something you might say about your attorney or accountant.

You don't know my mother. It's always official when she's involved.

You got that right. When it's your Mom, all else is second.

One phenom I never understood in the black community. When some BS like this goes down, nothing says please reenforce the stereotypes like looting and stealing.

And if you are so pissed, go to another neighborhood and loot and burn. They burn their own stuff down .

I know the type, good you went to see them.

I would walk thru hell if I could go see my Mom one more time. Folks put aside petty BS, and love the ones you love.

There's a reason for this. Think about it. Destroying a black neighborhood would result in very little action being done. Look at the Rodney King riots. That lasted for quite a while before things were brought under control. While I was riding around with my mom, I noticed the increased police presence, which is sad since normally there's no cops in that part of town. She kept saying watch the speed limit and don't make any sharp turns, they're looking for a reason to get you.

If black people would travel to a white neighborhood and act up, there would be no mercy. The cops and the homeowners would start killing them en masse, with no problem. Look at how hard it is to get justice when one of us is gunned down and it's NOT our fault. Even with video tape and witnesses, you're more likely to get blamed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, being a thug(because you look like one), or something you did 10 years ago is tied into why you were shot and killed today. TM was more on trial than GZ, and he was dead. Even Jordan Davis, who had a clean record, was considered dangerous enough that it was justified shooting in a car full of teens 10 times.

Yeah, had to check to see if everything was ok, since I'm leaving soon won't have the chance to do this as much.

I am pretty sure the guy that did it will never see daylight again.

Yep, and that's the scariest part. He's being locked up for attempted murder, not murder. In the eyes of the law, it was self defense. A grown man drives up and confronts a car full of teens, it's gets heated, and instead of being the adult and defusing the situation, he felt threatened and starts shooting in a gas station full of people, leaves the crime scene, goes to his hotel for pizza and walks the dog, didn't call the police, drives another 2 hours away to his real home, and wasn't even bothered with the fact he just killed someone UNTIL the cops showed up at his doorstep the following day. If they didn't get his plate number and vehicle description, by all accounts, he would have just lived his life as if it didn't happen. And he claimed that he was in fear for his life. For all those holes in his story, for all the lies he told, for everything that showed that kid wasn't a thug, had no weapon, and couldn't even get out of the car due to the way they were parked, he wasn't convicted of murder. His parents got justice on a fluke, a technicality. They get to say our son's killer is doing time, not for killing our son, but for trying to kill his friends. That's what he was convicted for. Not murder, even though that's EXACTLY what it was. He took a life, but the justice system is telling the parents and black people that JD's death was justified. Had he been alone or the other teens were killed, he'd walk as a free man.

Heck, Renisha McBride's killer is going to jail for murder, and I know the ONLY reason that is happening is because she's a woman. If Renisha was Darius, I'd bet the house the outcome wouldn't be murder.

He is being retried right ? I don't know of anyone that thinks it was justified and the guy is locked up for life. What more do you want

You know why he is being retried? Because they couldn't get him on anything else. 3 people on that jury actually thought it was self defense. That's why they couldn't convict on the murder charge or even manslaughter. They went for everything, and came back with attempted murder because if they didn't do that, he would have been released.

I want a man who shot and killed an unarmed teenager to go to jail for murder. Not attempted murder on the kids he didn't kill. Is that too much to ask for?

Sounds like a good prosecutor to me. They knew the murder was not a slam dunk, so they rang him up for the rest of his life on a sure thing. Now if TM's prosectuors had not over reached it may have ended very differently.
