Not me, but friend of mine. She had to do that because of Indonesian property law. In Indonesian property law, person who marries to foreigner does not allow own property in Indonesia. The reason why because if divorce happens between the two, some properties could go to her husband and the foreigner is not allow to own properties in Indonesia. That's what she told me if I choose to own properties in my country after married to husband.

My relative did in Texas when his fiancé arrived from Philippines.

He had 3 kids and was paying a small amount of child support due to having limited income.

They signed a PreNup which kept her income separate, and his x wife tried to take him back to court for more child support money, but the courts would not consider his new wife income as part of child support since they signed a Pre Nup.

So it worked out great for him, His x was a POS.........

That makes sense. Before I was kind of negative on prenup, but I'm starting to warm up to the idea that it may be good to establish common understanding upfront...with all good intentions for all situations. Because my fiancée and I both worked for many years, and we both have retirement accounts that we built up over a long period, and housing that's either paid off or close to being paid off in respective countries.

Makes sense. The new wife had nothing to do with the old marriage.

She had consulted to her lawyer about the option since prenup sounds like very bad. You have plan for a divorce even before you get married. But, the worst part if divorce happened the properties will going to someone else.

When I sold my company and other partnerships percentages during the last 2 years, I had all put into a living trust, and no one can move money out of it except the attorney involved and on my written orders to him.

Prior, we not have a prenup. We talked of a post-nup, but that doesn't make any sense for us. She stopped worrying and fretting after I set up a REIT solely in her name on a parcel of properties, that she now manages.

The one poster that got it done, to keep an ex from chasing after new spouse's income - that was the right thing to do... If you have a similar situation, by all means cover yer backside.

ya, the thing about MY Money, is that it came from the sweat of my brow. It was a nice chunk o change, I retired early and I'm back in school, but still have 4 to 5 clients/month doing smaller projects... Plus my garden..

Being Chinese, she forgets to understand that working smart never means working 12 hours day/7 days week. Throwing the REIT at her got her off my back for something for her to do...

But - usually a prenup is done to protect something. Keep that in mind as you re-evaluate your financial position this week.
