My K1 visa has been approved can I still visit the USA before I want to use it?

I called the POE I will be using directly and I was told I can enter the USA with a K1 visa in my passport and I do NOT have to use it. I just have to be specific that I want to enter as a visitor and I am coming home!

In this case, in bold I shall write

You can enter the USA as with a K1 visa on your Canadian passport without using it, you just have to explain you want to enter as a visitor! :)

Again----it all depends on the POE officer....During the almost 10 yrs I have been on VJ...there have been others that have called ahead to the Port of Entry station....have 1 officer tell them something...and once they arrive..something else totally take place...I'm sure u will have success..but one should always be prepared in case things do not go the way you want them to.
