There is little else the US can do at this point other than try and get Americans out of Iraq, and buy time until the Iraqi government gets their act together and do what they are supposed to do.

Apparently Obama is doing something right, considering England and France have joined the effort.

What more can he do? They (ISIS) know we have a percentage of the population here biting at the chomp to have a big waa-waa party for any collateral damage so best to let the greater carnage take place and not be part of it.. Besides the UN issued a somewhat harshly worded STATEMENT so you know action is imminent on that front.

So seriously.. We went in for the wrong reason.. Guess we got out when we did for the wrong reason as well.

Did you say that because Obama is black?

No it is his the usual schtick of ignoring everything that runs counter to what he wants to be true but can't argue from any sort of logical standpoint and focuses on the easy things.. I'm assuming we will get the switch to dismissing points and making light of the poster directly soon.. Anything but talking about the issue as a whole.

England?

That could be tricky.

Do you know something nobody else does?

I see someome has a bit of a fixation today. Because naturally this sort of thing is going to inspire reasonable responses..

No. Because the outcome of the predictable outcome. The government at the time of the first gulf war didn't remove Saddam because they knew it would lead to violent anarchy in the country.

Bush Jr only went into Iraq for reasons of geopolitics and to make money for his own and his fathers business interests. It was not about freeing the Iraqi people or trying to take away WMD. It's insulting when people try to pretend otherwise

Unsurprisingly violent anarchy is exactly what has happened.

You'd think the US and its allies would have learned a lesson after regime change on Iran went spectacularly wrong.

Presumably OnMyWayID has some more smart remarks he/she/it would like to share.

Why not pay Hamas to fire rockets at IS.

Win win.

That makes sense, not sure it was the reason.

I was a strong supporter of the Iran Iraq war, that made sense.

Here is a link to more information on England. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/England

Good luck!

Any link to England as a Military or Political entity, after 1707?

The invasion of Iraq ultimately was the wrong idea at the wrong time but we need to bear in mind the context in which it took place. It was after 9-11 and we wanted something done and quickly. Regardless of Jr's personal reasons for deploying our military and engaging in the campaign, we must also remember that he acted on bad intelligence and precipitously so.

What ISIS is doing today is not much different than how Saddam ruled the country.

Regardless of what it was or is, the point remains that the Iraqi government needs to step up and take action if it ever wants to establish its legitimacy. Waiting on the west to resolve every last issue isn't going to help them any.

Dude, you need to bone up on the Act of Union, yo.

Word, Mav! Thumbs up! I was just trying to help the other kid.

p.s. congrats on the 98% score on the test last week(?). Atta girl!!!! Well done!

They said Tony Blair acted on bad Intel too. However, what featured prominently in the UK debate on the issue, rather than the US one was that it wasn't a mistake. They knew it was bad and pushed the WMD angle because they wanted to go into Iraq.

Everyone did. If you look at the 'Coalition' it looked more like the roster of the 3rd class car in the express train to hell.

Seriously?? Debating on going in that has been done to death to avoid the obvious? Weak.. What about the timing of pulling out? Pulling out when we did was irresponsible considering the hand we hand in making the current mess. Done 100% for political reasons.

The U.S. destroying artillery given by the U.S. to freedom fighting rebels attempting to overthrow oppressive regimes only to have those same rebels now themselves becoming obsessively oppressive?

Perhaps a few A-10 Warthogs are now needed ( 4,200 rounds per minute)

Weren't you one of the ones crying that Obama wouldn't help the rebels in Syria, by ordering air strikes a while back?
