So if you read Dostoyevsky or Tolstoy you would know these questions had been brought up over a century ago and wouldn't participate in these puerile discussions. They are a distraction at most.

I think close-minded is ignoring the conclusions of a report into jail conditions to suggest that what the authorities are doing to inmates is somehow deserved.

Not suggesting that you're doing that, but a few people here can't read an article like this without making it about the person who posted it.
