Owning foreign real estate?

My fiancé and I are curious about the impact owning real estate in his country would have on the I-129f process. We have filed and are waiting for the NOA2. At some point in the future, maybe when I retire, we are considering returning there. Could we purchase a house now and rent it out for a number of years without jeopardizing the visa process?

At this point we haven't even started looking, we are just exploring the options available to us.

Thanks.

I have never heard of anybody being asked about the petitioner owning local property/ies at a K1 visa interview, at least not in US Embassy Manila. Even with this remote probability, I don't think this will raise a red flag.

However, I think, the more important thing that you should note is that foreigners cannot own land in Philippines. If you guys finally decide to, the land property will solely be named to the Filipino spouse.

A possibility is owning condominiums or apartment units in high-rise buildings, but only 40% of the property (last I heard) can be owned by a foreigner.

Thanks, this sounds like more of a question of owning land in the Philippines in general, than a visa issue. Maybe the property would have to be in his name only. I take it from your post that it would be okay for the beneficiary to own property in the Phillippines?

(PS. I grew up in New Vernon!)

As noted above by PaulAbby, owning properties is never an issue for the K1 visa. As far as I can recall, it was not asked in any of the forms as well.

[Ps. Nice! I always bike around New Vernon, because the Great swamp has good trails. :)]

Real Estate will not interfere with the visa process. There are no forms to fill out, or any requirements to divulge any information in the visa process to any authority (ie. CFO or the CO at USEM).

For additional guidelines I suggest looking at this link as I think it spells it out in laymen's terms. http://real-estate-guide.philsite.net/foreigners.htm
