Ok this was an overall strange day. I'm pretty sure I know the answer but just let me know...

A little background: I am a Canadian engaged to an American. We are gathering our information and slowly getting ready for a K-1. My fiance is still in school for a few months so we are trying to time things right as he will be the only one working when I move.

Today I was looking through some job postings for my area in Montreal, just looking for some part time/weekend work to keep me busy and save up a bit of money before I am not able to work for a certain amount of time. I stumbled upon a posting for a job in the dental field (which I've been doing for the past 12 years) a clinic in Miami looking for someone that speaks English and French.... basically it was the perfect job for me.

I was curious and contacted the man. He was looking for his friend who is a dentist, but he wasn't the one doing the hiring, just helping out his friend. Dentist is legit, I checked the dentist registry of Quebec and he's a real dentist that owns 2 clinics in Florida, and 1 in Montreal. I obviously asked if they required a green card or if they could 'sponsor' employees ( I wasn't really sure of the process) his answer was ''Dr so and so will give you an affidavit and you can get a visa that way'' I have read and looked into visas enough to know it cannot be this easy. But as I said the man I spoke to was not the actual one hiring, the actual dentist left me a message later on and I am supposed to talk with him tomorrow.

I do not want to to risk anything that would interfere with me being with my future husband. The goal is for us to get married and live in the USA. But if I can work while achieving this, it could make things easier.

All opinions are welcome!

I think Dental work is eligible for a TN visa?

But I'm not a dentist, I manage employees in a dental office.

Do you qualify for a TN Visa?

Does sound like a set up.

I honestly do not think it's a set up per say... probably more like ignorance on their part or simply not caring about the consequences... If I was 20 and wasn't in this relationship I probably wouldn't think much of the consequences. I'll know more when I talk to him tomorrow.

I don't think I do qualify for one, and I would only do this if I could move faster than with a K-1 visa.

I agree. I don't think the person understands the hoopla and requirements one needs to go through to get a visa. I think you know better than this man … it can't be easy as getting an affidavit of support. In addition, I don't think I've ever heard of any foreign national receiving a visa to do office management work in a clinic/dental office.

I'm sorry :( If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Best of luck to you and your future husband!

Most small time employers or even most people in the US have no idea about the visas, they don't know the difference between a visa and maintaining status, most think if you leave US after your status expires, you are being 'deported' etc etc. I guess they don't know because they don't need to know. But you know, and you know the consequences. So tread carefully my friend.

if possible for TN-1 visa, I suggest you pursue that route.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Pay them the money they ask for, and you will know if it is a scam, FROM MIAMI

Huh? What money? I never said they asked for money.

You're right it's not like typing fast and making schedules is a special skill lol. It's not that big of a deal really we will stick to our original plan. Just figured I'd look into it. Never hurts to try.
