Hello all,

I am new to VJ and am looking forward to utilizing the site in order to bring my daughter and future wife to the US. I appreciate all your feedback and everyone who has gone through this or a similar journey; thank you for your insight!

Background:

My name is Joe. I am from the US and am currently here in the Philippines until the second week of August. My fiance gave birth to our daughter one month ago. Current plan is to bring everyone to the US sometime next year.

A few questions I'm hoping to get some additional information on:

From what I've gathered, it's better to file for a K1 visa verse getting married here in the Philippines and filing a marriage visa? I've heard different time frames, anywhere from a few months to a year? Any ideas on an approximate duration? Since we have a daughter that's a US citizen, does that potentially speed up the process?

I sent inquiries to the US consulate in Cebu and Manila. I'm waiting to see how long it will take to file US citizenship for our daughter? Any ideas on duration as I'm leaving next week however, I could extend my stay another week or so.

Appreciate any feedback and thank you in advance for any input!

With kind regards,

Joe

I can't give too much info but I would not suggest getting married and then applying. You should stick with the K-1 visa. I see horror stories on these forums of married couples that have been waiting over a year for a visa. Ideally with the K-1 it should take around 9 months before you will be reunited. It all depends on location. California approves the petition in about 2 months and Texas is about 6 months. Philippines seems to get approved quicker for whatever reason. I am sure someone can post with more information.

For your daughter to get US citizenship and US passport, you need to file CRBA: http://manila.usembassy.gov/service/citizenship.html

Having a baby does not speed up the process for either fiancee or spousal visa. One or both can take up to a year depending on so many variables/situations.

Good luck.
