brazil, specifically in rio, right after i win the lottery :P

I like Rio for vacation. I wouldn't like to live there. I don't know, it's just sometthing that we haven't experienced, but Rio is a very dangerous city, lots of crime. I wouldn't want us to risk living in a place like that.

if i win the lottery we can hire our own army :P

Live in Salvador Brasil, much safer (relatively) and you can save your dinero for cachasa instead of an army. ;)

(of course the heat might kill you if your not used to it)

but i was so looking forward to invading argentina :D

10Yr GC arrived 07/02/09 - Naturalization is next

The drama begins - again!

And now the drama ends - they took the Green card . . .

today you need a good $2000 per month to live in Philippines with good peace of mind.

In Many countries you need good security because locals will try their best to take advantage, and may beg you to death if you look too prosperous.

Hong Kong is great place if you love condo living and generate a good $10,000 month in spare income.

HK? you don't get much space there for your money but you can have a ringside seat for the typhoons in those high-rise towers!!!

I liked HK for visiting (well, went for work), but it is too crowded and noisy for me to live for long . . . sort of like Cairo, but much cleaner and more westernised in regards to shopping and eating . . . at least if you want that life-style . . . not everyone wants the Western life-style.

Yea I was looking at...Costa Rica for fun..I'm like 15 years from retirement.. but I was looking and saw that housing was alittle more then I figured I'd have available when I did retire.. the idea is to pay cash for a house or flat..so the overhead is minimal..

I thought about her Country...but SSN won't send the Checks to me there unless it changes in 15 years.. .. But hey everything will change in 15 years.. :)

Maybe Cancun Mexico ?? I have an old Boss/friend that sold the business and his house and retired there... He loved the place..use to vacation there several times a year...

So far we have some nice idea's...

Chris,

If you SSA check is what you are worried about then it is called direct deposit in a US bank account and then the BANKOMAT baby...

YMMV

You guys should consider visiting Australia. Apart from the county being absolutely beautiful, it has one of the highest standards of living in the world. Similar to America but a lot more cleaner and much less BS

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I have also heard that Mexico and the countries in Central America are great places to retire to cos it cheap to travel, exotic and beautiful scenery and everything is still dirt cheap. I know someone actually from Costa Rica and they were telling about me about the system there, where tax incentives for foreigner and to qualify for retirement status is easy. People over 45 in retirement status pay no taxes for out of country earning. You can bring up to $10.000 worth of belonging dut-free and import one car duty-free and sell it after 6 yrs duty-free. And if that was not good enough, an acre of beachfront propety start from $15.000.Costa Rica sounds nice right about now!

I know someone who retire to the Dominican Republic. They used to live in Florida and being that close visited several times and knew people (and culture) that came from there. So I think that is why they found it so attractive. Unforuntately I donnot know what the cost of living there is...but my friend is wealthy so he could afford almost any price I think.

I myself, after taking a trip to Greece and discovering a hidden little village not far from Athens called Tolo fell in love and dream to retire there. With Greece having the Euro which is worth more then the dollar and Greece's lakcing health care system I think this may just remain a dream.

My husband and I have talked about living in my native country (for a while) just so he could get a feel for it... but I am not sure about retiring there. It is more likely we would retire to his country.

I think many people sometimes donnot really look at the country they are retiring to. Instead retire to a favourite vacation spot or retire to their SO's country and not always look at the long term issues like: real estate pricing, culture, cost of living, safety and stablity, healthcare, climate, the special benefits or downfalls and infrastucture.

Has anyone here thought to retire in their SO's country?
