One just has to phone around and see which offers you the best price and coverage. State farm is good for bikes, Geico can be good as well. I have USAA for car and home insurance, But State farm for my bike ( was the cheapest)

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

It really depends on state to state. There is a good chance you will be classified as a 16 yr old. Allot of states are changing rules now for immigrants coming in. Here in NC they just changed the rules and even if you want a drivers license you must have insurance. (with or without a car) The problem has allot to do with those in the past that have moved here and been the cause of many accidents. I know this is not the case with all, but giving you the information I have read. I have a motorcycle and they are a seperate policy here in NC. You will normally get better rates if you keep all of your insurance with one company. (house, car, motorcycle)

Hope this helps. I am getting ready to have to pay for my wife an insurance policy. I will have to pay as if she is 16 also. I feel your pain.

unfortunately they usually do treat most people coming from Europe as new drivers. oddly enough, my state (Louisiana) only has a treaty to switch licenses with no testing requirement with Germany.

i would call around to find the best rate for your vehicle and motorcycle, keepining mind the cheapest may not be the best. i've heard horror stories of some of the discount companies dropping you after one claim, however minor. that would only make your rates go up as being rated with a cancelled policy is worse than a new driver.

good luck
