Hi all, I'd appreciate a few tips with my situation. About 12 years ago my mom was denied visitor's visa by Moscow Embassy when I just graduated my uni and started working full time. I am a permanent resident in US now through employer sponsorship. I want to bring her for a 4 week visit.

Showing strong ties to Russia is tough, so I would like to know if we have a chance. I am her only child, she is divorced and recently retired.

Specific question about I-134: should I state that #9. I have previously submitted affidavit of support? What is the visa petition mentioned in #10?

We plan to get in advance of her interview the following supporting documentation:
- Round trip airfare to US

- I-134 with letter from my employer, 2013 1040 and W-2, paystubs for the past 6 months, bank statements
- Copy of a deed to her apartment
- A signed letter from my grandpa stating that my mom is his sole caretaker
- An invitation letter explaining the reason for a trip (Christmas holidays and meeting my fiance)
- Her old passports showing several trips to EU and returns to Russia within past 5 years

- Photocopy of my Green Card

Thank you in advance

Those are what she needs to show as proof of strong ties to Russia. If she has money/bank savings and credit card statements, show those too.

Your pedigree and bank account are not what is being assessed....only the reasons why your mother would return. The caretaker letter opens a new issue....if he can survive for 4 weeks without her, why not 6? Why not 60? Somebody would be (presumably) taking care of him in her absence....

Excellent point. He is functioning OK, but my mom picks up his meds, accompanies him to doctor's office, cleans apartment, shops for groceries. Her very good friend will cover her during the trip, but she will not do it indefinitely... Would that be a sufficient explanation during the interview?

Do I need to bother with I-134 at all? She doesn't have enough of her own income to pay for the trip.

She has a chance, have a go and see.

No chance if she does not.

the main thing to remember about an I-134: (a) it is NOT legally enforceable (b) promises made by others regarding covering expenses are just that....never enforceable....the focus of the interview is why your mother would return, not why she wants to go to the US, nor what your bank account balance might be.

Hi folks, thank you for all the help. A quick follow up to clarify a few questions:

1. Do you need anything else when submitting DS-160 besides passport and payment info?

2. Do you need to translate to English any supporting documents she will bring for an interview?

Kind regards
