Question Regarding Notary on Affidavit from Friends

Hello, newbie here. So we're gathering all the required documents for the K-1 visa. We're trying to get some affidavits from friends as well even though it's optional. Better be safe than sorry, right? It seems the affidavits need to be notarized, and since I'm getting some friends (in Malaysia) to write for us, so I went to a commissioner of oaths, but he advised me that I probably should get the affidavits to a public notary instead of a commissioner of oaths, since the documents are to be submitted to US government.

So...question: is it true that I have to go to a notary public instead? I can't wrap my head around it lol, since I don't have much knowledge in these legal stuff. Any help would be much appreciated! And any tips & tricks for our visa process would be good too!

You don't have to have the Affidavits notarized. They are relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of things . Photos, letters, communication via email, phone, etc, and time spent together are much more important.

As far as tips are concerned...there is plenty of information here - on VJ - how to fill out forms, what is required and how to prepare for what comes next and wait...yes, lots of waiting.

Good Luck

We had affidavits from our friends and they just signed the letters themselves. And added contact information if uscis had any further questions we were accepted with no rfe

I recieved an rfe from sending the affidavits becaue they wanted some from my hubsands relatives, sometimes including them make more issues.... but certainly make sure you get them from his and your friends and family if including them... and his needs translations (btw i had everything notarized)
