She's a bride to be she can call it a wedding if she wants to. People get married legally all the time and then have the party and they call the party their wedding. So why can't she do the same?

I actually think it's a great idea and even if he doesn't get his visa before October and has to go back home you know it won't be long before he comes back :) Smart thinking neaivj. It sucks not being able to plan a proper wedding so why not take control one way or another. Let me know how it turns out as I too will probably push back my interview to make things work with when we plan to get married. Congrats on your upcoming wedding! _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

With all due respect: YOU ARE WRONG.You cannot call it a wedding. You cannot get married while processing a K-1 visa. You cannot even infer that there is any kind of a ceremony that looks like a wedding. People have gotten tripped up just having an engagement party and showing pics to the CO. CO's tend to believe that photos taken at what looks like a wedding, a bride wearing a wedding gown, a groom in a tux, bridesmaids, groomsmen, setting, reception, etc appear to be photos of a wedding. You know the old saying, if it smells like a wedding, quacks like a wedding and looks like a wedding, it probably is a wedding. Therefore the word wedding should never be used. An engagement party might be okay but I would not even show the CO photos of that. They might request evidence to prove that they were not married. I am just trying to help the poster. You are giving poor advice that could very likely get the OP in trouble.

With all due respect YOU ARE WRONG. A couple in the process of a K-1 should never hold any event called a WEDDING or any event that looks like, smells like, or sounds like a wedding. They should simply postpone the "wedding" and wait until the spouse is here in the US. But that's just me talking.

Oh and by the way. I am not suggesting that I am perfect. I made the mistake of booking our airplane tickets from my wife's home country to the USA 10 business days after we attended the interview. Well, I failed to follow what all the fine people here on VJ said and that was, "Never book plane reservations until you have the visa in hand." Well, as it turned out 99% of the VJ'ers were correct. I ended up having to change our airline reservations at a considerable cost because it took 11 business days for the visa to arrive at our 2GO delivery location. So the moral of the story is: Patience...and never book anything until the visa is in hand. Oh, and don't get married while processing a K-1 visa.

God Bless

If you read what I said I did not give her advice. I understand the situation she is in and if that is what would make her happy then I think she should go ahead with her plans. Obviously if this goes against a 'rule' or requirement she should not do it. I am not an idiot.

Where can we find this information you have stated? My thought process is a wedding is a tradition and means nothing if there is no legal marriage. Just as having an engagement ring is a tradition so it is not a requirement to apply for a k-1. I'm not saying you are wrong or trying to offend you in anyway but a lot of people say a lot of things and I think it's important to get information from proper resources.

Nope Amy, I'm with you. I think if the couple goes through with their "non-legal wedding" before he gets his K-1 VISA, they're in for a world of hurt. Why in the world would you even take the risk that the CO could deny, or say "nope, sorry, you gotta file a CR1" or anything else?

They say don't schedule anything until a VISA is in hand for a reason.

The website that matters is London Embassy. Read it. Study it. You don't want to miss a detail. It says--

Police Certificates for the United Kingdom: A visa applicant who has resided in the United Kingdom for 6 months or more since the age of 16, is required to obtain a police certificate from the ACPO Criminal Records Office (ACRO). Further information is available from their website at www.acro.police.uk. This police certificate will serve to advise the U.S. Embassy, London whether or not any criminal conviction is held against him/her. The police certificate will be sent to the applicant's address provided at the time of application. Please note that the Immigrant Visa Unit considers the police certificate valid for 12 months from the date of issuance, not six months as stated on the certificate.

There are maybe, if you get lucky, shortcuts, but it is all depending on USCIS to NVC before you can start your engines. He needs stuff in place like yesterday so when you get the word from NVC, he can book that medical for the next appointment and zap off the DS-160. He could have that filled out but not submitted....ready to go. PM me when you connect with NVC.

A member sent me the below link, it said six month there, that's why i am confused

Will do, I just received the NOA2 hard copy yesterday saying it has been mailed out on 7/28

Thanks, I guess i will just have to change the wedding to Engagement party if we dont have the visa by that time, so the money wont be wasted, at least we get a engagement party.

Please be aware that if it LOOKS like a wedding, they might not buy it's an engagement party. If you search the forums, you'll find cases of legit engagement parties being mistaken for wedding ceremonies, with all the ensuing headaches and delays in living together.
