Wow! Congrats!!

Check out the NVC thread they have here monthly - especially the first post!!!! (http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/524875-nvc-filers-december-2014/).... and read Saylin's wiki on the NVC process (http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_Process)

These are an absolute goldmine for information!!! And be sure to read very carefully!! It seems most people are getting checklists because the enter the wrong income numbers on the I-864 or I-864ez, or they miss the military question and leave it blank......

In the downtime while waiting for our NOA2 (still waiting.....) I am a bit of a research nut and have been reading the NVC threads every month to see what others are doing.......

Best of luck!!!!

Thanks for this

I got bombarded with text messages saying that my case had been updated. Sadly, when I checked the website, it just said that my petition had been received on August 6th, 2014. I was hoping it was better news. I know their website has been down for a while so maybe they just got it working again.

Back to waiting....

Hi everyone,

As we are getting closer to the approval for our i-130 petitions. I believe everyone here should be looking at and preparing for the next step at NVC now. So I have a specific question about the document for IV package. As it stated on the NVC website, They want us to submit a copy of police clearance. So I am wondering if they want police clearance of us as petitioners or of our spouse as visa applicant? Hope someone can help clarify this.

Thanks so much and wish you all a wonderful winter break!

Hi everyone,

After I have read this reference about NVC process, "The I-864A is used for household members of sponsors. Typically, the only time I recommend using the I-864A is for spouses of joint sponsors who are deciding to contribute their income as well. So, in these cases, the petitioner would file an I-864, the main joint sponsor would file an I-864 as well, and then the joint sponsor's spouse would file an I-864A."

Can someone help to clarify my understanding of i-864 and i-864A. So if my parents are my joint sponsors and we live in the same address. Which form should my parents fill out? Hope you guys can help.

Thank you so much!

I believe the police reports/clearance they want is from the beneficiary (the IV applicant), not the petitioner.

For Mexico, police reports are not necessary.

It would be also a good idea to start prepping if your spouse if going to need an I-601/I-601a waiver of Unlawful Presence Waiver.

Per USCIS:

Certain immediate relatives of U.S. Citizens may use this form to request a provisional unlawful presence waiver under Immigration and Nationality Act Section 212 (a)(9)(B) and 8 CFR 212.7(e), before departing the United States to appear at a U.S. Embassy or consulate for an immigrant visa interview. For more information see the Provisional Unlawful Presence Waiver web page.

To file Form I-601A:

  • You must be the beneficiary of an approved immigrant visa petition classifying you as an immediate relative of a U.S. citizen. An immediate relative is an individual who is the spouse, child (unmarried and under 21), or parent of a U.S. citizen.
  • You must have already paid the Department of State immigrant visa processing fee (IV Fee) for the case associated with the approved immigrant visa petition.

I know Saylin mentioned it in her NVC document (http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_Process) but I am still feeling uneasy about the question regarding vaccinations. There is an older version of the form that we will need to complete but according to the Wiki, the questions will most likely be the same or very similar. It says on the form:

"Except as Otherwise Provided by Law, Aliens Within the Following Classification are Ineligible to Receive a Visa. Do Any of the Following Classes Apply to You?
a. An alien who has a communicable disease of public health significance; who has failed to present documentation of having received vaccinations in accordance with U.S. law;" etc..., and then asks you to select yes or no.
My husband does not have documentation for the vaccinations required because he has never needed them or gotten them. Is this something we should have him do prior to completing the NVC paperwork, or is it ok to explain that he will get the vaccinations when he does his medical?
Thanks!

From what I have read in the NVC threads, this is not a big deal.... one option is to get a titre blood test from his doctor. This will show the level of antibodies and if he still has immunity for their list, or it will show what he needs boosters for.

Don't quote me on it, but I am sure it is also okay to say no on the nvc paperwork regarding the vaccine question and then bring in whatever you have gotten since then to the interview....

Best wishes!!
