My boyfriend is working in the US for Mexico on a work visa. I am from Canada and want to move to the US with him in NY State. Do I need to find employment before I can apply for a work visa? I also know I am not on the Nafta occupation list. I chose 25 years ago to be a bartender because I love it.

Agreed, other than visiting the US as a tourist or getting married to your boyfriend and filing for the proper spousal visa, your options are limited.

What Visa is the boyfriend on?

One great thing about Canada is that we have very liberal travel to the U.S. It sounds like you should focus on visiting as your employment visa probably won't materialize.

Good luck

PS - what visa is boyfriend on?

Boyfriend is probably on the TN-1 visa (makes sense, as then he wouldn't have to go through H1B quota).

Actually, coincidentally, you're eligible for the TN-1 visa too! Just find an employer and you should be good to go. Of course, the question is, where to find someone who'll sponsor you ...

And agreed with the others, your boyfriend is irrelevant in this case unless you guys get married. No such thing as de facto relationships in the US, unfortunately.

Good luck!!

Ah, true! Though I'm sure OP already knows that given her original post.

Best of luck to the OP!
