If you received DV visa, why does your profile say H1B?

Who are the family members? You're looking into 2-3 years time (depending of the speed of visa bulletin) before your family members can join you. Why didn't they interview with you?

they are my wife and son. during my interview, the counselor asked for them and cut their names from a list.

Why did he do that?

Just a guess but because OP didn't bother to complete their visa forms or bring them to the interview, consul probably kept the visa number usage to 1 (vs 3) and gave a chance for 2 more people to get their visa issued. Lots of problems these days for folks to get visas if they have high numbers.

So beacause OP didn't bring them to the interview, they didn't get a visa and he now has to wait 2-3 years? That's a bummer.

It's amazing how many questions can be resolved with a 2 minute Google search...
