Hello,

I'm gathering information for the process of getting my new husband a green card. When reading through the 1- 864 form I saw that I need to provide my past 3 more recent federal tax returns. I don't have any as I've been a student for a while. Is this information required to show that I can support my husband or will my salary information from my new job suffice? Is there a possibility that I will be denied or need a cosponsor because of this?

Thank YOu

You will need to submit a letter explaining why you didn't file taxes. It's simple, because you were a student and didn't have taxable income. The important thing is your current income. Is it above the 125% poverty level? If not, you would need either a joint sponsor or combine your income with a household member. You will also have to prove that income with a letter of employment/paystubs.

This does not constitute legal advice.
