Can someone please enlighten me. i really need to get a concrete answer so i don`t make mistake. I was just told that my family support cannot be counted in the Affidavit of Support when filing for my partner and i read that i will need to get a joint sponsor who makes the required 125% of poverty level income. Since my family cannot be counted. Who do you think i can use as a joint sponsor? A friend or who, I seems to be kind of confused.

A family member CAN act as a joint sponsor if they are willing to do so.

What do you mean with family support? Do you get child support, allimony or child benefit payments of some kind?

Any US citizen or greencard holder resident in the USA can be a joint sponsor. They need not be family, or live in the same State or anything.

What i meant by family support is that, any member of my family, Like my mom said she can be a joint sponsor if it can work. Yes, I get $1000 for child support and earn $12,000 a year.

I think "family support" means something like child support, etc.

I don't want to spread misinformation but I'm not sure this will fly for your income guidelines.

You will likely need someone to willingly joint sponsor your application.

Thank you all. I earn 12,000 a year and get $1000 as child support every month. Does the child support add up or i will still need to find a joint sponsor?

Find out where you live, how many is in your family (you, spouse, children + any other dependents - do not include parents etc... unless they are dependents on your taxes) and then the minimum 125% guideline.

So a family of 5? No you don't make anywhere close to enough for a family of 2 let alone a family of five. That's what that form I linked is for, so you can do some of your own research.

You NEED a joint sponsor.
