I thought in UK you could schedule the interview once you had the medical appointment scheduled? Sorry, just going by what I read in the London K1, A complete guide thread, but just re-read it and now I'm confused by this:

NOTES:

The order for medical and readiness form are interchangeable. If you have all your documents, you can submit the Notification of Applicant's Readiness before you actually attend the medical.

I'm just trying to get a handle on whether I can start thinking about wedding stuff, and I'd like to be able to at least ballpark a month. If we have to wait until after the actual medical and it's one of those moving targets....well, I'd just like to know if I'm in for another one of those open-ended waits again, is all.

No, the embassy schedules your interview.

There are 3 things the embassy must have to give out an interview.

DS-160

Medical results

Readiness for interview form (which is your way of saying you have all documents in hand and a medical scheduled)

So the order can be shuffled a bit.

Make medical appt

Send DS-160

Send Readiness form

Attend medical

Send DS-160

Make medical appt

Attend medical

Send Readiness form

And so on. The readiness form requires putting in a date for the medical, but you don't have to have been to the medical yet when sending it as long as you have an appointment date.

You will get an interview assigned only after the last thing is received by the embassy. And you won't hear The day after. They are not that fast.

Ah, thank you, that clears up my confusion. Unfortunately, it just makes me more frustrated at the same time. I guess until you have that visa in your hand absolutely nothing is certain. It takes time for the case number to be assigned, then time for the paperwork to arrive in London, then after the medical you have to wait for an interview date, and even after the interview it looks like they can still come back and ask questions (though that was another consulate, I'm hoping London is more competent) and then you have to wait for the visa to be delivered.

And the whole circus starts over again in the US after the wedding. Yeehaw.

Sure, but at least you'll be with your OH then :)

I'm forgetting about form filling for now, just focusing on the wedding for a bit (something a bit more fun than forms that begin with I... ;) )
