Dear all,

It has been 2 weeks since I arrived to USA with CR1 visa. I have called USCIS and Social security office to require about my SSN and green card but they said I had to wait for 3-4 weeks from the date which I got here. My question is if I want to apply for a job I have to wait until I get my SSN??? Does it take times for you to get SSN & green card?? How long did u get it mailed ???

Thanks

what is status at ELIS website ?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

ok - take yer IOE receipt # from ELIS, plug it into the USCIS CRIS system, and see what status there is.

My wife arrived from Vietnam (coincidentally) at the end of June, and received her SS card within three weeks. You will need this for work purposes. If you've been here two weeks, suggest you check status as suggested and be prepared to wait a little longer.

I been here for almost 6 weeks but still didn't receive any mailed. Worrying and afraid why. Anyway, if ever you got an SSN do you think I can get job while waiting for the GC?

Thanks.!

Your endorsed visa IS a green card. Yes if you have your SSN you can work.

Whats IOE? I have no idea what you mean for that. Im just hoping my ELIS status should be change and hopefully it comes next week.

There is an reciept number in ELIS that starts with IOE. Top of the page I think?

If you want you can go to an SSN office and apply for your SSN. There is direction on how to do this in the SSN forum.

Hard copy green card takes 1-3 months from entry or USCIS ELIS immigrant fee payment, whichever is later. What does you ELIS account say?

hi,

I have been here 3 weeks already, the last time we called USCIS they said i could receive it within 10 days but then we called them again today and a guy said we had to wait for 3 months, i wonder how ridiculous they are ... different answers every time... I wonder if i could go apply for SSN without green card :(

You have a green card. The endorsed visa in your passport is a green card. Go get an SSN.

what related documents? All is inside the passport, already.

Please study the line 'endorsement' in the visa stamp, then study what an I-551 document really is, then please review why you already have 1 year temporary I-551 document.
