I thought for China you had to do all that Opt-In stuff and deal with embassy. China schedules there own interviews at embassy not NVC.

idk??????? I thought NVC doesn't schedule the interview, once cc, NVC will contact each embassy about the CC and they will wait for the embassy to schedule the interview and notify us? is it supposed to be this way?

each embassy schedules its own interviews, I don't think NVC schedules the interview. I might be wrong.

Was that in an email or snail mail?

it was email, if you are EP, then it will be email. check out my previous post which I replied to "dwheels76"

he said china we have to opt-in something...really? do you have any clue?

I have read that for China you can either opt-in for EP (Electronic Proccessing) or not. If you have a GZO number and Not the GUZ number you are on EP. I think if you did not do EP and the Files go to China from NVC thru the mail then there is a good chance the files will get held up in chinese customs for 1-4 months. I have also read that for China the NVC sets the interview date after checking with the consulate so they message back and forth for the open slots. This is different than most Consulates in other countries. But for the most part this is what i think i know from reading, Everything is subject to change at any time without notice lately.

that's what I thought too. the opt-in is just for EP. I did that so I have GZO case number. I got GUZ first, after opt-in, they changed my case number to GZO.

I don't think we contact the embassy directly regarding the interview, I think the NVC will contact them and once they got the date, they will contact us if I'm not mistaken.

my few cents to improve "the first post guide"

instruction how to pay immigrant fee http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/USCIS/USCIS%20ELIS/immigrant-fee-guide.pdf

Yes I will add to the next months because its becoming a great topic. Thank you.

Anyone else with ideas or things they would love to see added for future people. Please let me know. Of course don;t want to put everything on here but you get the point of it all.

We're now at 7 weeks since POE -- no SSN, no green card. The card isn't even optimized on ELIS tracking yet :clock: Did they tell you how long to expect the GC to take?

You need to be down at the SS office tomorrow and apply. Usually after the first week most just go into office because by then all your POE info is in the system.

Green card I have heard people told by USCIS it will be October or November (is the machine broke also?)

Sorry for your delay.

Mhm, we've been to the office twice and have been unable to get an SSN, just not for lack of trying. Perhaps third time will be a charm.
