Hey VJ Friends,

I sent an email to the US Embassy in Egypt about police certificates & asked how long its taking them to schedule interview appointments and this is what they replied:

"as for the police certificate it is valid for one year, even if it says it is only for 3 months. As for the interview, the NVC determines that not the American Embassy.

I thought the US Embassy in Egypt was the one that scheduled the interview dates not NVC?? Any thoughts? Does this mean that maybe Cairo is caught up and they're back to normal interview scheduling?

I'm thinking maybe the so called backlog at the Egyptian Embassy is getting better if not gone completely. It isn't taking as long so they say and if not mistaken I remember reading that the Egyptian Embassy was doing the scheduling because of the backlog problem due to the revolution 1 & 2. But then who really knows, God willing it's because it's quicker to get an interview. We shall see.

Hi Gang!

So I'm almost home from our big trip - one final jaunt through the US to pick up Hubby's bass from Portland (it's valuable so we left it at his Mom's in Portland for the summer. We visited my family in Edmonton for a couple of days, drove down to Calgary and spent the night, then today we drove south (and a bit west) to Spokane, WA. (The customs guy in Idaho was the grouchiest one in all the border crossings this trip, but none of them gave me any hassles (thank goodness!))

Tomorrow we go to Portland, then the next day back "home" to Vancouver.

Then I have to scramble to book my medical, find a hotel (we found a good deal for a flight already) in Montreal for my interview, and make sure we have all our papers in order. Hubby's not going to be able to afford (time-wise or financially) to travel out to the interview with me, so we'll have to work extra hard to have proof of domicile. (Given as he lives in Canada with me)

Not that I'm complaining at all, though. I feel for all of my compatriots here at VJ who didn't sneak under the wire with us before they changed the rules and extended the deadlines again! If I could do anything to speed up your processes, believe me, I would!

Let's not mention the C-word (ch**klist) for the next three weeks!

Let's just never use that word again... even for what I thought it meant before I started this process! It is now officially out of my vocabulary!

School starts end of next week in New York. Oh well, I know 2 desks that will be empty!!!!!

Well I called this morning to see if anything had been approved... On Friday the rep volunteered to have my DS-261 passed to a supevisor because she said it should have been reviewed already. Today I spoke with Kevin (who I USED to like) and he said he saw that the supervisor request had been put in, but that since it was still within the 60 day timeframe, the supervisor would look at it but probably not so anything with it.

Great. That sounds like such a huge waste of resources I can't stand it. Why in the world would you have someone look at something that would take moments to review and approve and just not do it. Wait another 20 days. Great.

These people are crazy... But I guess we already knew that.

That's one that I had a lot of problems with too - the DS261 is just a ridiculous time waster... 3 questions that really don't make any difference at all, and they can delay it forever, it seems, if they want to!

Just to update, I called back and got a different rep. She was super duper nice and said that they are changing over to this process. However, my documents were all sent in prior to that so it would not effect me. But she did say that now they are starting to review all of the packages together, instead of going through one by one. She said the new process initiated due to the confusion generated via checklist when people already had sent in the stuff. She said now they will be looking at reviewing all the packages together and beginning the 60 day mark at the last scanned package date.

No. The officer didn't ask me to list all the places have lived since I was 16. U.S embassy and NVC always request and accept for the police certificate to be done at Alagbon because Alagbon police certificate covers for all the places the applicant has lived all his/her life.

I have had a big day today.

Original Birth Certificate arrived yesterday. Called NVC today just to see if they may have looked at our AOS checklist but of course they haven't. As an afterthought I asked if the Supervisor Review had been done on my Adoption Certificate. Oh yes they said, it was done on August 20th and it has been found to be acceptable so after all my work I don't need to send them the original. Confirmed this three times with them and then called back to speak to another operator just to double check. Sure enough it has been removed from the Checklist.

Then an hour later my Singapore Certificate arrived. I went into a frenzy - copied it, completed the Checklist pack, drove out to Adelaide Airport to Fed Ex and off went my package. $90.00 later they said it would be at NVC on Wednesday morning, US time. If they can scan it in by Friday - I know I am being optimistic! - we can get the clock ticking and wait for a CC. I feel quite relieved that I don't have to wait for anything else in the mail.

I so hope we can be there for Christmas.

I didn't know they could overnight packages from Adelaide to New Hampshire! We live in a crazy fast world. Too bad USCIS and NVC are not in that world with us...

I think we need to wait another week or two for our AOS checklists to be reviewed. We're both 7/22 scans, 25 business days in and counting...

Happy to hear you were able to turn around the Singapore PCC so quickly. Case complete is around the corner for you now!

Hello good people of visajourney!

My letter of employment contains a tiny bit of Chinese (one of the official languages of Taiwan, where I work) that has zero significance to the letter at all. Will I get a checklist if I don't get it translated?

For what it's worth our case has a joint sponsor as well. Do I even need to send a letter of employment then? I have also included my resignation letter signed by my boss stating that I am quitting after my wife gets her green card.
