I have a question for you guys that I think I know the answer to...

I have my husband's birth certificate and our marriage certificate from the Civil Registry with official translations from a government agency in Chile that we sent with our I-130, which according to the embassy is fine for the purposes of the IV package. We also included with our I-130 a photocopy of a certified copy of the original marriage certificate with our signatures and our witnesses signatures. It's a totally legit copy. The problem is, we don't have that one translated. I am in this process of getting a quote and time frame for having it translated, but I'm wondering if I should have it done or just include the certified copy in spanish?

I know the answer is to have it all translated and include all of it, but I don't know why I didn't think of this before! I think I was just thinking we have all of the things we need from the I-130. Plus it's sort of extra info. I'm sure I have plenty of time before I send my IV package (calendar day 32 since DS-261 submitted) so I can just get it done, but it drives me crazy that something that's OK for USCIS isn't OK for NVC.

Yup girl, have everything translated and send it all in. It's what I did along with the Embassy e-mail stating it was the correct document.

I am preparing everything I need to send in my IV package, but I am confused as to whether I mail it in or scan/email it in. Does it matter?

Hey, sorry to bother you. How do you find out the scan date? By calling? Does NVC understand this terminology? (Sorry if this seems silly, but ...how do you ask?). I believe I understand the NVC process up to the part where I send the AOS and IV packages, but then it's a little bit of a mystery. Do you call every week (or however often) and ask if the packages have been scanned/reviewed/accepted or do you find out some other way? Thank you!

You need to call and ask, please check when my packages were scanned and they should know the terminology unless they're new. I call only when I need to I find that calling all the time must just annoy them and I'm not risking them losing my paper work because of it. Not only that but calling ALL the time just ties up the phone lines for people like you and I that need to ask questions and not just call to annoy and bother them, it's just abusive . But call when ever you need to call, that is what they are there for. When you get the scanned date call when it hit's 30 days then 45 then in my opinion once a week is good enough but it's up to you.

Only a few countries do Electronic Processing. What country are you filing for?

I-130 was approved yesterday and I have a question regarding email correspondence with NVC. I am a bit confused about what NVC says online:

How to Enroll Your Case for Email

To establish email communication, an applicant, agent, or petitioner must enroll the case by sending an email to nvcinquiry@state.gov.

Can I do this now with the USCIS case # or do I need an NVC case #? Or do I need to wait for them to "receive" the case before I can enroll?

That's what I thought, but I am filing for Mexico and my IV instructions tell me to scan/email them. It says if it doesn't work, I can go ahead and mail them.

I think that's good advice... I also think it's healthy for those of us waiting for a long time not to call too often, because it tends to increase the frustration levels.

I would just add that in my experience they NVC reps will use the word "received" for what we would call scanned. So we may know from the delivery system's tracking that it was delivered on the 3rd, but they will say "we received it on the 5th..." so that means it was scanned into their system on the 5th. Although the last package I sent them they are saying they received on the day that it was, in fact, delivered... either their times are getting better, or maybe it was because I sent it overnight and someone had to sign for it?

Congratulations for your approval and welcome to NVC stage. I guess NVC has the petitioner's email address on file. But personally I'll suggest you wait for several weeks for NVC to receive your case file and then you can give over both email addresses over the phone so that both the petitioner and beneficiary can receive correspondence from NVC.
