Don't do anything!!! I had some question about my AOS package as well, called NVC many times and asked many questions here in VJ. I came to know from NVC that, as long as they didn't request anything, you don't send anything extra from your side. You will loose your spot in the line. And there might be a slight chance that the person who is reviewing your package might approve it despite some lacking from your side. I have seen many people got approval eventhough they made a major mistake.

But then again, It dependent on how lucky you are!!!!!

Aack! Too late I sent my transcript this morning... I'm EP so it was just an email, they haven't reviewed my AOS yet and I haven't paid my IV fee yet so I figure even if it pushes my AOS approval back a bit I've still got 60 days for the IV approval

As for luck... Don't even get me started on that, haven't been lucky yet through this whole process, why start now LOL

I have a question for you guys that I think I know the answer to...

I have my husband's birth certificate and our marriage certificate from the Civil Registry with official translations from a government agency in Chile that we sent with our I-130, which according to the embassy is fine for the purposes of the IV package. We also included with our I-130 a photocopy of a certified copy of the original marriage certificate with our signatures and our witnesses signatures. It's a totally legit copy. The problem is, we don't have that one translated. I am in this process of getting a quote and time frame for having it translated, but I'm wondering if I should have it done or just include the certified copy in spanish?

I know the answer is to have it all translated and include all of it, but I don't know why I didn't think of this before! I think I was just thinking we have all of the things we need from the I-130. Plus it's sort of extra info. I'm sure I have plenty of time before I send my IV package (calendar day 32 since DS-261 submitted) so I can just get it done, but it drives me crazy that something that's OK for USCIS isn't OK for NVC.

I just talked to Mel from NVC and he a couple of interesting things...

First of all they show my DS-261 as received on the same day that I submitted it (amazing!) He also then said that I need to wait 30 business days (not 60 calendar days) for it to be reviewed. Of course I take that with a HUGE grain of salt (my 30 business days are up Aug 29, by the way)!! He also said they recommend waiting to send the IV docs until after we submit the DS-260. What??? That's one I hadn't heard before.

I asked about the translation of the marriage certificate and he said that if it's in either English OR the language of Chile that it doesn't need to be translated, which is what it says on the NVC website and Saylins WIKI (I know, I read and re-read!) I'm sure if i called back and spoke to someone else I would get a different answer, but I thought I would let you guys know if someone else had a question or thoughts to share.

Good luck everyone!

Hi, please what is exactly is a scanned date? Is it significant ?

The scan date is the the date the mail room scan your documents and it shows on their system as received. This is also the date they tell you your documents were received (even although your USPS delivery receipt will show the actual date it arrived in their mail-room). They also sometimes referred to it as the date your documents started their review.

The relevance of this date, is that this is the date they work from. They do review documents in order received, in a sense, but it appears that multiple docs may be assigned to a case worker and some are faster at reviewing than others so you may see people with a scan date after you being reviewed before you.

They reason we all ask what scan dates are is it helps give us an idea on which date range the NVC are working on and help us to estimate when we will see movement on our own cases.

Thanks a lot Colgil.

What happens if you send your AOS and IV documents separately? Will your scan date start afresh?

We got a mail saying our AOS document was recieved on the 16th July (I'm assuming that is the scanned date?) and our IV documents on August 10th.

We got a mail saying our AOS document was recieved on the 16th July (I'm assuming that is the scanned date?) and our IV documents on August 10th.

Unfortunately they do review docs separately. Keep an eye of for people with scan dates on or around July 16th and you'll find out if your AOS docs were accepted or checklisted (praying you don't). You will get a false checklist if it's approved saying everything is good, but that they are still waiting on your IV docs. You can then ignore that. If it's a genuine checklist they will tell you what they need for you to resubmit and the date they receive that will be the date you are working towards for a case complete. If it is a false checklist then the date you are working towards will be the IV docs on Aug 10th. (again providing no checklist on those). I'm sure you get the jist.

EDIT: Take a look at my timeline, I was checklisted on my AOS docs.
