so i emailedc NVC and requested and expedite for medical reasons. the expedite was dated 7/9/2014. on the 17th i received an email asking for my spouses phone number, which i provided on the same day. ever since that email i have been actively calling NVC and asking about the status of the case and i keep getting the same answer. " WE ARE WAITING FOR THE CONSULATE TO RESPOND"

i spent most of this week looking at plane ticket to go see my wife then yesterday i emailed the consulate myself and basically asked " what in the name of God is going on" ....(this is funny) 45 min latter i got an email back telling me that they have approved my expedite on the 17th and that they have received several email from the NVC regarding this expedite request and they have been emailing them with the approval.

as you can imagine this made me very pissed. so i called the NVC and asked tot talk to a supervisor.... "nice lady" she said that they haven't received anything from the consulate. so i told her my little story and how i got a response in 45 min.

she told me to forward the email to the NVC expedite email. so i did..........now 2 days latter, i called and they still have no news for me.

what should i do??

sorry to hear that, i emailed on July 15th, i called yesterday, NVC rep told me my expedite request is granted, it might take up to 30 business days to response(may be less than that time, that was she said)i know there is backlog with NVC, but i dont think there is backlog with expedite approval as well.it used to take less than 2 weeks to ship everything to embassy since request email date, dont know how long is gonna take now, may be 30 business day, it is less than 60 days, that is what we get expedite for.....really......

I contacted a supervisor at NVC and she instructed me to write a letter of explanation to accompany my "real" checklist response. She also told me this may not help me and that we may be back in line. Lord help us!

You need to look at the list of documents required in the AOS and IV packages in the wiki linked from post 1 of this thread.

You should NOT send an original certificate of naturalization to anyone. This is a difficult and expensive document to obtain. Keep it somewhere safe.

I'm the USC petitioner. My wife is British (now a USC!!!), generally awesome, and amazingly patient.

Nice detective work :) I just got off the phone with NVC for the second time in 12 hours, and the call center agent told me the same thing as the lady last night. Basically that they haven't reviewed my IV packet yet (they're still working on June 20), so the checklist I received must be wrong and I should ignore it :bonk: . Since I don't trust anyone at this point, I asked to talk to a supervisor anyway and was transferred to Sue. She was very nice, and basically told me the same thing. Sooooo I guess I'll wait til next week to call again.

If you get some sort of response letter from the Embassy it might be worthwhile to include it with your IV documents... just an idea. Hopefully there won't actually be a problem with the certificates, and I was just unlucky with my rogue checklist.

Well I'm glad to hear that its not officially a problem yet! And hopefully it sounds like it'll be ok. Here is the response from the Embassy:

Thank you for your email. Birth and police certificate issued by the civil registry are ok to be submitted.

Sincerely,

Immigrant Visa Unit

Santiago, Chile

I wish all correspondence with the NVC was this quick! It doesn't say anything about the marriage certificates, unfortunately but the NVC website states that this is where you get them from. And I will totally send a copy of the emails with my IV package. That's a great idea! Thanks for sharing your info!

Thank you stackeria! I am having a huge paranoia moment before I mail the IV packet this afternoon. Needless to say, I don’t trust my sense of sound judgment anymore…

Although the two required petitioner documents for an IR-5 visa is their birth certificate and marriage certificates, if the petitioner in your case is a naturalized US citizen, it may be a good idea to include the Naturalization certificate as well. But not the original, include a certified copy instead. Instructions here on how to obtain one: http://www.uscis.gov/tools/how-do-i-customer-guides/how-do-i-guides-us-citizens/how-do-i-obtain-certified-true-copies-certificate-naturalization If the petitioner is going to the interview as well, I'd suggest they bring their original with them. If not, I'd suggest getting two certified copies and having the beneficiary bringing the second copy with them to the interview, just in case.

hi, you have made a good observation. Going from my own experience, NVC had taken 13 days after receiving our case from USCIS to generate case number. So I thought it will take around13 days for our AOS and IV documents to be scanned in but I saw your post and Soloenta's timeline and I will call Monday to see if our documents have been scanned in. Husband had sent the documents on August 6 and they were delivered on August 8.

Hi there,

Yes I think if ur docs were delivered on 8th then they would scan in 2 days. Call Nvc on Tuesday.

I have already commented on july thread that Nvc might take more than 30 business days . According to the scanned days we can calculate the processing time/ days.

My guess is till they hit 15th of July Nvc is going to have difficult time. After that they will speed up.

Good luck my friend. Hope everything goes well. :)

According to NVC it's not necesary.

Petitioner Documents

If you are applying for an IR5 (Parent of a U.S. Citizen) visa, you are required to provide:

-Original or certified copy of your Petitioners birth certificate

-Original or certified copy of your Petitioners marriage certificate from the Petitioners current and all previous marriages

Hi guys, I have question, I looked through NVCs wiki but I couldn't find an answer specific to my situation.

for beneficiary... on form I-864... Should I put "maiden name" or Married name? in part 2? on DS-261 I put same info as passport... and since visa will be issued (I assume) under same name as passport. Should I put maiden name aswell in that form?

I'm anxious about that...I reaaally don't want to get checklisted for anything at all! already got an RFE back in USCIS stage and i want to avoid further delays.

Thanks for the help! :)
