Is any body who could give me any idea by his/her own experience how long it took to get a new Italian passport, especially if you had to deal with the Italian Embassy in S. Francisco?

I know this was posted a long time ago, but the only thing we know is that my husbands expired and we sent in the paperwork and we are now waiting because i guess our AIRE registration wasn't complete. They needed a different long form of our marriage certificate and we are now waiting on that and then when they receive it the passport paperwork can continue, but because the status is in limbo, the passport has to wait...how is yours going?

I can't answer for Italy but we had to get Claudeth's Filipino passport renewed and all I can recommend is plan on spending a half a day there and make sure you take all the documentation you have including the old passport, birth certificate, marriage certificate issued by the county's recorder's office, green card (if available) and any other documentation you might have. I hope this is helpful. Of course you could try and call the embassy nearest to you for advice. Did you look it up on the Internet, many embassies have FAQs and passports are usually covered there. Good luck

My question was just in order to know alot in advance how long it was going to take to get a new italian passport, although mine will expire in about less than 2 years, but anyway the Italian consulate in S. francisco never replied to my 9 emails about questions how to get a new passport if you live in US. What I heard it is better to contact the italian embassy in Washington DC, and read & follow the instructions, and send whatever is requested then to the italian consulate in S. Francisco (if you depend on S. Francisco).Regarding AIRE, I heard that if you are not in the AIRE list the passport process can be delayed. Once I got married (last september) I sent the form for AIRE, and I know that in Italy in my last City Hall where I used to live, they received it. Try to filled out as soon as possible that form (AIRE form) in order to get faster the passport, explain to the italian consulate you depend on that you must go ASAP to Italy. Unfortunately in USA the Italian embassies/consulates have been having just few employees (I heard) and the poor italian citizens are hopeless.....................so unfair!!!!!! Let me know how it went, sorry if I can't help you more.................. :(

I am sorry you can't get in touch with the SF consulate, I had my share of problems with Philadelphia...but eventually I got a hold of a person from the Passport Office who straightened things out for me. I can get in touch with this person very easily if you want, she replies to me very quickly, usually the same day too, but even if I asked her about timelines and waiting periods her answer probably wouldn't be helpful to you since it is a different consulate. That's why I replied with the info I had to your other thread but not to this one since I didn't deal with SF. I assume each and every consulate is different when it comes to these things, the only thing they have in common is probably that they are painfully slow and difficult to deal with...

Even the embassy in DC is not that helpul...It's really hard to get in touch with them too. I drove there since I live 20 minutes away from it but still my county is under Philadelphia (3 hours drive...crazy!!) so because of this nobody was helpful and just told me to get in touch with the right place.

I hope you'll get what you need, if not next time you go to Italy have it renewed over there.

Stefano's passport took 2 months to process and that was with all the AIRE mixup with our marriage not being registered and having had to redo the marriage certificate with the apostille again and everything. I would guess 6 weeks is more normal.

I'm still waiting for her reply... She is usually faster than this, either she is out of the office or maybe they got slow because of the festivities of the past few days (25/04 and 01/05). Just wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten..simply waiting as I said.

Thanks so much for sending me this message, I really appreciate it. I really hope the lady will reply as soonest, and I'll check here now and then for your reply, tks again.

Daphne I am so sorry I have not gotten back to you yet...but the stupid lady who usually replies right away hasn't written me anything yet! I am going to re send the email and see if she replies this time, if not I guess I can try and see if her old phone # (which I am not supposed to have lol) still works.

Thanks Churipu, that's very nice of you. I'll be chcking out sometimes on VJ for your reply, if (hopefully) the lady replies to you. Grazie again!!!!!

Stefano's passport took 2 months to process and that was with all the AIRE mixup with our marriage not being registered and having had to redo the marriage certificate with the apostille again and everything. I would guess 6 weeks is more normal.

Thansk for yr info, so actually it takes about at least a month to get the passport also through the Italian Consulate related to Nebraska State.......so not only the Italian Consulate in S. Francisco is slow........
