Some of those ol' grandmas tales may have a bit of truth, but most are far fetched maybe even grotesque.

Copulation while standing makes a boy.

swallowed ####### will make your vision better or is the best cold remedy.

chewing the umbilical cord will avoid PPD

bodybuilding makes one impotent

A few bad luck ones from my grandma:

To see a black cat crossing the street is bad luck

Breaking a mirror gives you 7 years of bad luck

Opening an umbrella inside is bad luck

And:

A black butterfly getting inside the house means somebody will die soon

Put your purse on the floor and you'll be broke

If you eat and go swim/shower too soon you'll die...

Hitting your elbow against something means visitors are comming

If the palm of your hands is itchy you'll get money!!

I suffered from the worse heartburn ever with my second child and he came out bald

I know of a few old wives remedies which I know for a fact work!

Sugar and soap mixed into a paste will draw out any infections or splinters - even if the skin is closed over.

Cover a bad nappy rash with a raw egg white - it dries and acts as a second skin and lets it heal.

The old wives tales that I always follow are:

It's bad luck to:

Cross anybody on the stairs/steps.

Cut your fingers/toe nails on a Sunday.

Have two people look in the mirror at the same time.

Lots of other stupid ones as well, but there is not a Sunday goes by that Wyatt tries to catch me out with trying to cut his nails

I would think that is the point of specifying a rusty nail

If you step on a rusty nail any doctor will suggest a tetanus shot unless you've had one recently. So its not exactly a wives tale...your suggestion that I or anyone else thinks tetanus is caused by rust , well thats just ......
