Hello everyone,

I'm an I-130 visa holder and I will be leaving the country this coming march or april. My questions. What do they ask at the port of entry?.Aside from bringing my ( x-ray and documents from the embassy)what else do i have to bring along with me so I will be prepared. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

they will ask to see your visa, etc etc..and as stupid as it sounds they will ask what the purpose of your visit is(usually..even WITH the visa!..dar!) ummmm..whatever else is just up to the officer... with a visa, Ihave seen most experiences be quick and painless but every officer is different.. best wishes, Michelle

You need the passport, visa, and brown envelope. On the plane, they will give you a simple customs declaration to fill out. K visa holders need an I-94 (also filled out on the plane), but immigrant visa holders don't. You don't need any other paperwork. Some people will suggest bringing the X-ray, and it won't hurt, but they won't have doctors at the POE that know how to read it. The doctor's paperwork saying that you're healthy is already in the brown envelope.

Assuming you don't give the officer any reason to doubt your eligibility for the visa, the port of entry should be quick, with only a few very routine questions. You may be asked to confirm your new address in the States so they know where to send future paperwork. They know you already went through the visa interview at the consulate, and they won't re-hash the things the consulate was supposed to check for. They don't ask you to prove you have a bona fide relationship, for example, nor do they need to go over the affidavit of support yet again.

After getting a K visa or immigrant visa, about the only problems I've heard of at the POE are when someone does something obviously illegal like smuggling, or the rare case when someone tries to enter on a K-1 but has evidence that they're already married (rings, wedding photos, etc.)

It is remotely possible they could turn you away, but they won't do it without reason. They would have to uncover evidence that you are inadmissible. So be polite and don't sass them with "You HAVE to let me in, I have a VISA!", and rest assured that everything will go fine.

Congrats.

Do not mean to hijack thread, but I read before on VJ that it is okay even if you do not have the x-ray with me ? I do not have the x-ray with me (embassy didn't gibe to me), but I assume the clinic sent one to the embassy - otherwise they would not let me have the visa. I only have the brown envelope from embassy and was told to hand carry and give to immigration officer on POE.

Can anyone help on the x-ray stuff ? :help:

Thanks

I had my x-ray in carry-on luggage, and it was a pain to carry it around all the time, since it's too huge to fit in any bag, and of course you can't fold it. :P

However, at POE nobody wanted to see it! All they looked at was my passport/visa and the papers in the sealed brown envelope...

I decided to stick my x ray in my checked in luggage, on the basis that if it were absolutely vital they would darned well have to let me go and get it! As it happened, they didn't want it anyway.

A POE is any point where a visitor from another country enters into the USA. So if the airport you are mentioning accepts international flights, and has a customs area, then it's a POE.

PS> For easy travelling with the X-ray, roll it up (do not fold it, the resulting marks will affect the integrity of the image) and put it in a cardboard tube -- much easier for travel.

It accepts International Flights but I was unsure if it had customs station. I assume it does but I am still searching for offical word.

Here's the airport website:

I think I might have confused you a bit -- if an airport accepts international flights, passengers will have to clear US Customs -- therefore the airport has Customs. If I am wrong I am sure that someone will correct me. :)

You would think so. Just the official government sites are so darn confusing to read. They way it reads is as if they only accept cargo. Our government at work! hehe

We are a way off from her coming over yet so I am sure answers will come by then. I just want to make it easy on her coming over. A flight from Tashkent to London to Phoenix is a whole lot cheaper and easier on her.

Thanks for the help.

I came through Detroit. The lady asked me:

1) What is the purpose of your visit? (A: Going to marry my American fiance in Indianapolis, Indiana)

2) Where will you be living? (A: Er, with my husband-to-be in Indianapolis, Indiana)

3) How long have you known your fiance? (A: 2½ years)

Then she stamped-stamped-stamped my passport and I-94 card, told me "Congratulations!" and waved me out of the room.
