Hello everyone,

I received my green card in mail last week and so I thought I should post my timeline here so others have an idea about what they can expect.

I think I am among those lucky few who did not have to wait for months/ years to get their green card. I had my interview exactly 73 days from the day USCIS first received my application and got my green card in hand with in 80 days. It was kind of unbelievable to me when I received my green card in post exactly one week after my interview (they posted it with in four business days). I guess I am just lucky.

My time line:

December 2008- came to US as F1 student

January 2011- started dating my husband

July 2011- Officially moved in with my husband

January 2012- Started working on OPT.

04-18-2014- Got married

05-06- 2014 (0)- Lawyer mailed the packet I-130, 131, 485, 765 to Chicago lock box

05-07-2014 (1)- USICS received the packet

05-17-2014 (11)- Received all four NOA in mail

05-19-2014 (13)- Received Biometrics screening appointment in mail for 06/05/2014

05-20-2014 (14)- Completed Walk-in Biometrics

06-17-2014 (42)- Text and mail notification for Interview

06-18-2014 (43)- Interview appointment letter received in mail for July 18.

07-18-2014 (73)- Interview day. Green card Approved

07-21-2014 (75) Text and mail notification terminating I-765 (EAD card) and I-131 (Advanced Parole) application

07-24-2014 (79)- Welcome to America/ Approval notice in mail

07-24-2014 (79)- Text and mail notification card mailed

07-25-2014 (80) Received the card in mail

Our Interview was scheduled for 9-30 AM on 07-18-2014. We were really excited because it was our third month wedding anniversary. We decided to celebrate our monthly anniversary for the first year of marriage just to make our first year special. We reached USCIS office by 8-45 AM went through the security procedures and gave our appointment notice at the window. We waited may be 45-60 mins ( I don't know for sure). I heard that it is always later than our appointment time so, we decided not to worry about the time. Our immigration officer finally came and called my name and we went in. She apologized for the wait and took us into her office. We took our evidence in a cabin sized trolley and she was really impressed. She said she likes people that are well prepared. I could see her loosening up a bit knowing we are well organized. Even though we don't have shared utility bills (because my husband owned our house quiet a time before I met him) we have lots of evidence since we lived together for three years. Also my husband claimed me as a dependent in his 2011 tax returns as I was not working then.

She then asked us if our lawyer was going to attend the interview and we said no. We signed a waiver for attorney at the interview and she started recording. We took the oath. She looked through my I-485 and confirmed the information on there and also asked those crazy questions on I-485 and G-325 A. Then she asked my husband questions from his I-130 and confirmed his G-325A. Then she proceeded to asking more about our relationship how we met and all that stuff. She asked me what made me decide to marry my husband and when we decided to get married. We wanted to get married for a long time but my parents were not accepting our relationship so, we had to wait for three years to get their approval. In those three years my husband wrote letters to my parents and brother. We gave the officer the original letters and she read through them and was really impressed. One funny thing was she asked my husband about the house he lived in 2007 and he got confused and he was telling her about the house he lived in 2000, I immediately jumped in and reminded him that he is describing the wrong house. I guess that helped because it showed that I know about my husbands past. She asked me if I want to give her any more evidence to keep on our file. I gave her everything I have. She asked me about my EAD card. I told her my old card was expired and new card is not in yet. She said she will cancel those applications when and approve my green card. She took my I-94. She was almost closing the interview and I asked her would she want to see our pictures and she said yes. We went through some pictures and she asked me some questions. She wanted to see my husband's dad because he got us together and is very supportive. He gave us a letter for my green card application and I told her he is looks like Santa.

She said she will do a final security check and will mostly approve the green card by the end of business day. She said we were lucky because she has no more interviews for the day and so she can work on our case. She also said if something unexpected comes up it will be done by Monday/ Tuesady the following week. I was kind of worried a bit because I thought the interview went great but then I realized that our officer was a very cautious lady and she will just go through everything once again before she approves. We came out and realized we forgot some papers and so we went back. We waited for 30 mins and she took us back in and we checked our file to find the papers we forgot. She was already working on our file and said she will approve it by the end of the day. By 3-15 PM that day we got text and mail notification of green card approval.

That is our story. My husband, our parents and family were all so confident from the beginning. I was a little bit worried about one of those rare nightmares happening. I was so relieved when I got my card finally. I am so thankful to God that my experience was so smooth.

There are differences between adjusting from K-1, K-2, and K-3 (Adjust of Status from Family Based Visas) and adjusting from Work, Student, and Tourist Visas. Most of times adjusting from Work, Student, and Tourist Visas are faster compared to K-1, K-2, and K-3. That's why I always suggested people to post on proper forum so others can get correct information.

FYI, there are a lot people here adjusting from K-1 visas are still waiting their green cards even though they filed last year. Anyhow, congrats for approval and received the green card.

I think this could also be a case to case basis as I already have my AOS interview appointment set on September 9. USCIS received my AOS, EAD and AP application on June 16. However, my EAD and AP is still in initial review.

I should update my timeline.

Yup, it is also involved how busy the USCIS local office is that processing I-485. Good luck for the interview!
