Bear traps out front. Lol. Almost nobody comes here. It's like a five alarm fire if someone comes up the driveway that we aren't expecting.

Yeah - car heaters. What we do is either three or four: Engine block heater. Oil Pan Heater. Transmission heater, if automatic. Plus battery blanket or pad.

If you want a car ready to go at any time, which we don't, it takes a lot of electricity. Otherwise it's three hours at fifty to sixty below before you can start them. I can put a propane blast heater on and do it in an hour, but that's also a pain in the rear covering everything up and watching so it doesn't catch your vehicle on fire.

Pics please!

is that a squat toilet in japan? noooooooooo...

Lol! I wouldn't be crossing my legs while squatting!

I lived a couple of places like that in which you are totally flipping out if someone is driving up.

3 is probably excessive for here because I think compared to let's say Fairbanks, we run about 10-12 degrees warmer on average. Last winter being an unusually cold one as far as I can tell.

I mostly just need my husband's ready to go for when he leaves for work at like 3am. I stay up late, so I can always plug it in a little while before. If I need to go on a rare trip to the big stores, then I can prep for it. Else than that, the emergency/health clinic, supermarket, and school are all within walking distance.

At least the previous owners had the good sense to put in new outdoor outlets for both front and back parking (the only new wiring we've got). There is a switch inside the house to turn on the one for the driveway so you don't even need to go out into the cold to do it! I seriously just figured out that's why it has a switch.

You know, I've always thought anyone who'd live south of the Mason-Dixon or in California completely and utterly daft. Firstly, the Southern states are much much too hot. My skin feels like it is burning alive when it hits 85....

When I told people we were moving to Minnesota, one of my relatives was like, "why don't you move to Florida, houses are cheap here too?"

1. Houses are cheap, but there are no jobs

2. Florida

3. Hot weather

4. Humid and hot weather

5. I went once in summer and it was seriously oppressive to walk just from a car to a store - I have no doubts on why the South is so obese compared to the North

I realize California has cooler areas, but I've never met a person who I like who chooses to reside there because they actually like it.
