If we could have known or even the old owners had known of this particular structural issue, then yeah I would feel hosed, but the reality is new perfect houses in our neighborhood cost at least 150k more than our house and almost all of the old houses have issues. Would we have rather built our own house? Sure! Could we afford it? Probably not.

Is your attic hotter than hell in the summer and at other times? Is your attic cold as ice in winter? Only you know if you've got a leakage problem. We need double thick because it does get down to -30 in winter and all of last winter I don't think it got above freezing. On that note - lowering the ceiling is going to lower our heating bill. Rawr!

Finally got Lucas to sleep, although as I type this Alexis is in my bathroom making noise. Lucas is very cranky from his vaccines poor boy is all achy today.

We don't have an attic. Or a door knob. Or thermostats.

At about -40F here the dog bowl water freezes on the floor near the back door and it's probably 90 or more upstairs. As it gets colder the logs contract and make these really loud booming noises, so we know it is getting down to 50 below. At sixty below, it's just incredible what kind of wood we go through. Ten armloads a day. Got five gallons of water boiling on the stove for humidity. Fill it at least once a day past forty below.

That festival looks like fun.

Maybe it is out of order in this thread but for us it has been six going on seven years of happiness. If my wife keeps this up, I am determined to let her out of the basement. Supervised, of course.

Well Lucas got one nap today an hour long. He is finally playing for how long who knows...

No way am I going shopping tonight, I do not want to deal with him being fussy while out. Oh I almost forgot I need to go look if I have any Motrin for him he is old enough for that now.

They get those frost booms with the ground here, not with the houses that I know of, but the frost heave is out of this world. The sidewalks all look like / \ rather than --. We've got natural gas which is cheaper than wood, at least were we live, and a built in humidifier which is probably really gross and I can't even find. Maybe the humidstat does nothing? It has yet to be explored because it has been humid and then some.

You've reminded me that we've got to get the engine block heaters in soon.

We live across from the Sheriff's office and next to his father, so we probably don't need a door knob.

How do people not discover basement wife with your lack of door knob?

The coworker I was bitchin about came over to my desk today to say she was sorry for how she snapped at me during the bbq, seems she has been going through stressful times. She also said she feels we got off on the wrong foot and can we start afresh. I was really surprised, but grateful all the same.

Also I finally caught the (not so) new xmen movie with jonas yesterday. Felt like a date night plus I got to see hugh jackmans bare bottom woohoo!
