Yeah you may have to do it by phone. It should be fast. I know the exchange here in NY, they don't leave you on hold. I think it's probably an issue with their system. If the system is asking for 6-12 characters, it's a mistake on their end because the receipt numbers are 13 digits. Have you tried leaving it blank? The document number for the GC should be that 13 digit number and nothing else according to that link. It's probably not coded properly because it shouldn't tell you that it's incorrect if it hasn't actually been verified yet. If they still have an issue on the phone then they may have to do it manually, they probably use the same system. Anyway good luck!

Yes, mine also starts with MSC! I just tried entering I-551 and with the numbers next to it also but it still doesn't work :/

Try the just the 8 digits next to the I-551 on the back. Grasping at straws here.
