I'm applying online for health coverage (Massachusetts) and it is asking me for my immigration documents. Well, I have a green card so I put that and it asked me for my Alien number, Passport or document number, Category code, Card number and the dates it was awarded/will be expired. Everything apart from "Passport or document number" works when I type it in, so I googled "document number on green card" and a website came up saying it's the same as the Card number so I wrote that again and it didn't accept it! So I removed the letters and just wrote the numbers and, again, didn't accept! I tried putting in my passport number even though I only need to provide my green card details and it didn't accept that either. I tried typing in my alien number, again, didn't accept. On the back of my card, there is a number right at the top left so I typed that in and, again, didn't accept!

I am so annoyed right now, so I came here to see if you guys can help me please? If not, I'll have to call them.

EDIT: it keeps saying this:

Error: The format is incorrect.

Invalid entry for 'Passport Number or document number'. Please enter alphanumeric with minimum length of 6 characters and maximum length of 12 characters.

Often you need to do it by phone or in person.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

When you specify the document you are using, you have to enter it exactly how it says. For example, for the green card, the A number has to be written in nine digits. If it has less than 9 digits you have to add enough zeros in front to make it 9 digits. Also be sure if the system is asking you to enter it with or without the letter A. When we applied for my spouse's coverage in the exchange it asked for the receipt number, it could be the receipt number that it's asking you for and not the A number in that particular field. My spouse's began with LIN, but it could be something else and it would be in the back of your card where all those arrows are. If you could post a snapshot of your screen, it would help.

This does not constitute legal advice.

Oh, I see. Thank you! The alien number is fine, it's the part that says "Passport or document number" I will snapshot that part.

Oh, you know what, it might be because I have a CONDITIONAL Green Card, I don't know. Um, should I just choose to put my foreign passport details? I'll try just that.

Is the number that you put in before, the receipt number for the card? It can start with LIN, SRC, EAC, etc. That would be your document number. It's 13 digits in total, including the letters. So if it has any more numbers, only put the first 10 I will post a link.

Your GC card number is on the back in the goldish strip. It is not on the front. This question is flawed, and the best way is to speak with someone, but check if you can enter the card number listed on the back strip (you'll have to hold it up to the light to see it). It is labelled Card number.

Yes, I saw that link. The number starts with 3 letters, and then 10 numbers, which is the Card Number. That website says that the Document number is exactly the same but when I write it, it says "Invalid entry for 'Passport Number or document number'. Please enter alphanumeric with minimum length of 6 characters and maximum length of 12 characters." so I take the 3 letters out and then submit my application and it says "We cannot verify your information at this time. Please contact Customer Service at 1-877-623-6765 (TTY: 1-877-623-7773) for assistance." and any other number I try it keeps saying that. It might be a website problem and not my card then, hmmm.

Could it be they are looking for the document number assigned to the GC i.e. I-551. There is name, country of birth, date of birth, category, USCIS# or A#, issue or residence since date, expiration date, and on the back there is card # which was your case number during the visa process (ours is MSCXXXXXXXXXX), but in the upper left hand corner is the document number I-551 with the revision date under it.

Try entering the 8 digit number next to the I-551 in the upper left hand corner on the back. That might be the document number assigned to your GC.

Good luck,

Dave

Try entering I-551 so the system knows you are using a GC.

Yes, mine also starts with MSC! I just tried entering I-551 and with the numbers next to it also but it still doesn't work :/
