Things to remember to tell your SO when they arrive

Let me be frank. Are there personalities on the board I do not like- you betcha. Are thier persons behind the posts that I have developed friendships with? Absolutely. So what?

My biggest problem here is that people are making assumptions based on curcumstancial evidence before their eyes and whatever they know from hind the scenes pms or chats. The is much much more to the picture than this. To make assumptions based on such minimal information is dangerous and it only adds fuel to any misconception.

Let's face how much of this miscommunication is the result of trolling behavior? I'd say 90%. The trolling comments seek to mock us, divide us, insult us and out men. The trolls go away when you ignore them- they are hungry little beast who have no care or respect for our journey. If you can't read between the lines on this one- wait, because some day I am just going to lose all patience with this nonense of childish accusations and just lay it all out- about everyone and everything.

I often wonder how Usama will do. I was PETRIFIED to cross the streets in Cairo and he was so matter of fact about it the whole time!!

Sounds like Cairo is like Kathmandu - total chaos... motorbikes, cars, rickshaws, tuktuks, cows, buffalos all going wherever they like...there is only one or two traffic signal in KTM, even for multi-lane roads...sidewalks only on Durbar Marg where the royal palace is... I have limited vision since I only see with one eye and I was scared to death, almost got hit by a motorbike once. Kumar had no fear at all. A couple of times he violated the 'no touch opposite sex' rule holding my hand to cross the street.

So I'd like to ask this, sz. If you think all of this plotting and persuasion is going on, what do you think the solution is? I think all of us are open to hearing ideas, without name calling and labeling. Because if I've learned one thing here, it's that these women are generous with their time and hearts. There seems to be a neverending flow of information, pep talks, offline conversation, and just a deep understanding that connections are extremely important to making this process a little more bearable.

I offered solutions in my past posts. Get on your chats and put into practice the belief that you should be able to be objective and allow for different points of view. For my part, I watch the negative exchanges, and there is very little difference of opinion when one is cheering on a fight. You don't need a play card to tell the players from the cheerleaders.

What are your suggestions?

Disgusting? No secret. Maggie began a thread about her disgust with the PMs and the clique, or have you forgotten? It was only a short time ago. Folks tried to shut that one down too and poured on the denial.

Are you making a confession. Sophie? If so, we're listening.

YOu missed the point. Maggie wrote something that was her misunderstanding at a time when she was highly emotional. I spoke with Maggie- we are not internet friends, we are friends and the matter was cleared and her post NOW is nothing more than a reactive response to something that never happened.

How can you say that we don't believe there should be different points of view? Check out our exchange Saturday night. I posted about something that wasn't even remotely directed at you whatsoever, but you took it on and we exchanged posts all night. And very quickly you reduced anything I had to say by calling me names, insulting my knowledge, flat out telling me that you discounted my questions out of hand. But I continued to exchange with you without doing so. Please, let's not continue with this hyped vicitimization of you or anyone else. If you want to come to an agreement about making attempts to reduce the name calling and personal jabs, fine, I'm all for it.

Let's move on to getting on IMs and telling people how to think or behave. I've already addressed this but will say again; I see NO ONE, even the most quiet, on this board who are influenced by anything in particular. We are adults here who think for ourselves and post accordingly, in my experience. Sure, there are times I think "oh, sh!t" about a post, but that's really not my business.

Finally, I will say this. I know exactly when this increased level of fighting began, and believe me when I tell you this, since you know I say what I mean, there is a guilty party here, and it's not a MENA woman.

You were among those complaining about dildos and vibrators being mentioned in public. I was among those who mentioned them, so I'm not sure how you can say that what you said wasn't directed at me.

When you started trying to bait me by saying you know what God thinks and that He was against mentioning dildos and vibrators in public, I reminded you that you are an atheist. Not delivered as a slur, just a statement of fact that, yes, does diminish your creds when it comes to discussing what God wants since you yourself say you do not believe in God.

I would only be a victim if I was too timid to stand up for what I believe to be correct. This is not so much for me, I'm not begging to be "in" and couldn't care less about it myself. The discussion is for the good of the entire board, the newbies and the fact that there are a lot of fights with predictable side-takings.
