From what I noticed in the timelines, most folks receive the biometric appointment notice about 1-2 weeks from the AOS NOA. What does your uscis.gov case update say?

By the way, it will be better if you to start a new topic next time for your specific concern, so you'll get more response.

Wow, really. Thank you for the reality check.

And the interview is only done in Sydney right? so I'll need to book a trip for that when the time comes (it's not done in Melbourne embassy)?

Sorry this has gone a bit off topic.

Yep, only Sydney. You can do it in a day (husband did), or take a vacation in Sydney.

FWIW, November was probably always unrealistic; we managed to fly through our K-1 VISA last year, and if we'd kept everything at the original time frame the embassy wanted, my husband would have had his interview in mid-November. And we filed in April of 2013. Since you're at Texas, you can probably expect to immigrate some time in April-May 2015 (rough guestimate).

It's kind of too early to say how long it will take to get your EAD, since that varies, too. The longest "should" be 90 days, but it's hard to say what the shorter side will be that far in the future. What should you do in your downtime? Probably get adjusted to life in America. :-) My husband spent a good amount of time here before immigrating, but once he was living here, it was just a LOT different for him. Culture shock, getting adjusted to all the miniscule differences - it was a big change, and the downtime was really helpful for processing/adjusting.

I applied for my EAD on 05/12/2014

received notice it had been approved on 07/25/2014

Now I must wait to receive the card in the mail

So generally about 90 days / 3 months

I filed on the same day as you and got notice it had been approved last Tuesday. Also waiting on the mailman to bring it to me! I heard it's 5 business days, which I hope is right because I have accepted a job offer and they want me to start ASAP.

How did you get notice it had been approved? USCIS Case Status? Or did you get the e-notification text/email? I signed up for the e-notification but had to check my USCIS Case Status as I didn't get an email or text.

Mine took 72 days. Meanwhile, you can take some online courses that would look good on your resume when you do look for a job once you get your EAD.

I learned to cook healthy dishes.

Getting an employer to sponsor you. Though that would be a work visa, so It actually wouldn't be EAD.

Do some volunteer work, make some contacts, maybe the contacts will lead to a job..,,.,.Good Luck!

This is good advice. A majority of people in the US say that they got their job through some kind of contact. So networking, as unnatural as it felt to me, really helped.

Volunteering too. I took three volunteering positions which stopped me from going mad.

haha yeah I know right, wasnt expecting it to be that fast... you know sometimes when u dont put ur mind into certain things, the outcome usually turns out favorable. My spouse just had an open heart surgery and is temporarily disabled plus we currently in the process of appealing the Social Security denial so no way to work for now. Basically I called USCIS spoke to the rep, she put in my request and told me I would get a response in 5days. 3 days later, I got a letter in the mail from USCIS requesting to fax in proof of my emergent situation. I sent in a copy of my spouse's doctors report, denial letter from Social Security and that was it. 2 days letter got an email and text, EAD&AP approved. I'm yet to get the card in the mail though, hopefully it shows up this week!
